Does your computer turn off? You may have an overheating problem or your video card driver may need to be changed.

Check to makesure that your heatsink on the processor is not clogged with dust. this can be removed using a medium artist style paintbrush or cammera brush with blow ball, also if updating your ATI Drivers DONOT use the latest from ATI VER 6.9 with catilist control as these have a fault with Sims2 for some reason, but the VER 6.7 with catilst are ok and work fine
hope this helps you

my driver updates say its 6.14.10.6614, odd
EDIT: I check ATi side and they only have 6.5, is that good enough?
EDIT 2: NVM found it but it doesn't support the Radeon 7000 series
EDIT 3: i installed 6.5 but it still says 6.14 and is restarts instead

Try removing your old drivers and reinstalling the 6.5 drivers:

Driver Cleaner is good to get rid of old drivers.
