Default Installer won't accept my product code; other Windows 8 concerns
Hi, I've been having so much trouble trying to run Sims 2 on my Windows 8 computer that I've finally taken the plunge and bought Sims 3. I bought a copy of Sims 3 Starter Pack off of Amazon secondhand, but the case was still sealed. (There was no sticker on the strip on top of the case, though- is that a concern?) I installed Origin, but when I got the window "Origin- Activate The Sims 3" and typed in the code on the paper inside the case, I got this message: "The product code you entered is not valid. Please confirm that the code has been entered correctly." I tried typing it in as it was written, I tried typing in the letters in lowercase, I tried to run the code all together with no dashes, but nothing worked!

I have another concern... will we always have to look for Windows 7 expansion packs to match the TS3 base game, or should I send back the game and make sure I get the Windows 8.1 version?

I believe you would have to contact Origin/EA Customer Support about the registration code to see if you have any recourse. If you got a "bad" or used code or are entering the disc install code where the registration code should be (if that's all you have to work with), then they may be able to help you out.

There is no such thing as a Win 7 vs. 8.1 version of the base game or its EP/SPs. They are all the same. You might want to take it easy on those EPs though. You only have 4 GB of RAM total to work with and an integrated graphics chip rather than a dedicated card. The heavier EPs (Pets, Seasons, IP, ITF) are not likely to perform very well.
