Default Mods that age townies
I've ended up with too many townies in my megahood, so I'd like a mod that ages them when they're active on a playable lot so some of the excess ones will eventually die off. I know something like this exists because I've seen people talking about it, but I can't find it anywhere.

I have a mod like this. It's by AncientHighway. It's very useful if you want more townies to age. You can find it at Simbology: http://www.simbology.com/smf/index.php?topic=8697.0

I know there are mods that do this (like the one AliaD85 linked to), but to me they really don't do much to reduce the townie population because, for instance, the townie in question has to be on a lot at a certain time in order to age at all. So, the odds of any one non-playable Sim ever dying due to age are pretty slim. Me, I'm not so much concerned about population (You can have like 32,000-and-some character files before the game can't run a neighborhood, and a neighborhood I've been playing for three years has about 1000 character files, including dead Sims), but I don't like townie immortality and a never-changing "bank" of non-playables in the neighborhood.

I haven't been able to find a mod that automatically does what I want it to do, and I doubt that it would be possible to make one. So, I do it all manually. What I do is, when a Sim ages to teen, I make a note of any non-playable Sims of child age that they are friends with. Then, when I'm done with their lot, I enter a lot I use to make adjustments to Sims and teleport the Sims on the list to it. There, I age them all up to teen using the Sim Blender. I also sometimes give them makeovers and change their everyday outfit if they age into something that doesn't look good. I do the same thing when a Sim ages to adult (aging up any teen non-playables that they are friends with to adult) and then again when one ages to elder (aging up any adult non-playables that they are friends with to elder). And then when a Sim dies, I also kill off their elder non-playable friends. In this manner, the townie population tends to age with the playables and you don't end up with townies who had been friends with a playable Sim's great-great-great-great grandparents and you also don't age/kill off too many, since you're only aging/killing non-playables that are friends with your playables. I don't use no-regen mods, so when Sims are killed, they are replaced with new Sims. (Unfortunately, they're only replaced with adults, but by that point I usually have plenty of playable children/teens for the other playable children/teens to be friends with. I could age some newly-generated adults down, but I don't usually bother.)

In all, it's a bit of work and a bit of "bookkeeping," yes, but I like the effect it has on my neighborhoods.

I'm mostly found on (and mostly upload to) Tumblr these days because, alas, there are only 24 hours in a day.

@icad The mod also works on apartment lots. I've had at least 2 townies die and one turned elder using this mod. It was a big apartment lot.

syberspunk over at MATY has this mod. "Grow Up Townies (Updated 3/15/2008)" http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/s...hp?topic=4842.0

Not only will this allow you to age up more townies but if there elders and you age them up they will die. I use this one ever since it was taken off the alpha and made into beta back in 2008 and have had no problems.
