This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default How do you build an attached carport when the house is on a foundation?
I am trying to build a specific house, which has to sit on a foundation and has an attached carport.
When I try to make the attached carport, the roof and the carport does not match up.
And I am unable to add foundation to the columns on the other side of the carport since the are too close to the edge of the lot (2 squares away).

Any help please?

You need the boolprop contrainfloorelevation cheat - you'd be best with a tutorial. There are several knocking about. I'll see if I can spot one (ages since I used one since I use that cheat all the time). Either that, if you want a carport only, you could do it with foundation round the carport area (say the sides) and put columns and a roof/floor over that.

I've never tried this but can you put a driveway under those canopy things? It strikes me that some of those, or a custom one would work for a carport.

Edit: this one seems to cover basic technique for the cheat

It's a garage but a car port would be similar.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

Thank you. I can't use that tutorial, since it is a bit of a different problem. I am unable to use the columns I need since they don't reach the "roof" of the carport since the house is on a foundation. And when I try to put foundation pieces 2 squares away from the edge of the lot, I get the dreaded error "Can't place walls".

Sigh...I found the answer. I need to use Lot Expander.

1. Does it work with the UC edition?
2. After reading about it, it sounds kind of risky. What precautions should I take?

LotExpander is fine (usually not a good idea to move the lot afterwards) but unfortunately I can't tell you about UC. It does have a browse function when you select the neighbourhood so I think that means you will be able to use it with UC (I use it with AGS as well as the regular game without problems). You could expand the lot and then shrink it again afterwards. You can put walls right up to the edge but Moo eventually advised against that so put the foundation one tile in from the original border if you intend to shrink again. You can put a wall side on to the edge but not running along it IYSWIM.

The other thing the Lot Expander will do is allow you to shift the lot over - do you have space on the other side of the lot?

I fixed it. I expanded it, fixed what I needed to and then shrunk it again. Now it looks fine.

Why should you not move the lot afterward?

It can be fine - most of the time - but sometimes changing the size seems to cause problems with the road part of the lot snapping onto a neighbourhood road when you move it around. I think it depends on what you do with it. I tend to do quite complex fiddling about and I have a problem with moving the lots at times. I think with a straight expand-shrink procedure you should be ok. It's just something to bear in mind and personally I avoid moving the lots so try to build where I want the lot to be in the first place. Moo also included options to flatten the road and match the neighbourhood terrain and that can help though sometimes it just doesn't want to work. The Adjuster will also allow you to move the lot around though that can be more trouble than it's worth.
