Default How do you make an angled roof piece
I've been Googling but I'm not sure what to put in to even get an answer. I'd like to build a roof piece like this house has https://www.modthesims.info/d/499989

Is this something that gets done before the rest of the house? I'm wanting to build a 3 story dorm with a roof piece like that and attach solar panels to it. I'm guessing build temporary walls up to where I want it, cfe the ground and then remove all those temporary walls and then build the dorm underneath?

Alternatively, you could use the GridAdjustor to slope the floor tiles.

I don't mind if you call me "MSD" or something for short.

That looks...a little risky.

I always wait awhile on these things until they have been around a decent amount of time. Only just got into the lot adjuster a few months back.

I tried building a box up, made the top box 1/4 wall height with floor tiles on top and got it nicely sloped. But then all the walls are sloped and I need the lower ones to be flat and I'm not sure how to do that.

I always use the GridAdjuster, so I could be wrong. I believe that you turn on CFE (ie, the normal setting) and flatten the lower levels.

But it could corrupt my game? I'm a nervous type, wording like that usually makes me run away. I stared at the lot adjuster for years before trying it and I think you only warned of crashing on that one. :/

Will the GridAdjuster corrupt your lot? Very unlikely. I can't think of any reason why it would. On the other hand, I'm a human being with an incomplete understanding of the internal format of the save game files. I've done the best that I can, but I'm not infallible.

You should always back up before using any external program to modify your save game. It's just common sense. As an example, I just found out that changing the value of the U0 field in the Lot Description using SimPE will corrupt your lot. Who knew?

Did you try resetting CFE and then flattening the lower levels?

You mean turning it off and back on? I didn't try that, if that's what you mean. I can't see how flattening the lower part will stop the higher part flattening as well. I figured there must be some trick I'm missing, I'm still what I consider to be a beginner at CFE.

I know that there's a trick. I'm just the wrong person to explain it, because I never use CFE. I seem to remember that you turn CFE off to create the sloped roof, then turn it on again to flatten the lower areas.

MikeInside has some good CFE tutorials:
http://mikeinside.modthesims2.com/index.html

For example, this tutorial seems to do something similar to what you're doing:

Thanks, I know his site but didn't check out that tutorial. He mentioned some interesting things in that in regards to curved roofs. I'm trying for something flat but I'll have a play around with it.

Thanks Tiff, that looks great! So to do this on top of a third story building I would do it the same but with a 3 story tall wall rather then just one story?

yup, sure would
This is another good one, if you want a curved awning, you can tweak it to be a curved roof, just use the same steps as in Annes Tute http://www.blackpearlsims.com/showt...alf-Curved-Roof
And heres another for a sloping roof http://www.blackpearlsims.com/showt...ffering-heights

Not after a curved one, but a 'roof' piece like I linked to in my first post. But good tutorial to things are always welcome.

I don't think that it really matters whether the roof is curved or sloped... the same basic techniques should apply.

Update here: https://www.modthesims.info/show...d=1#post4262228

I wasn't sure which place to post it. I'm not sure if I am doing it quite right or if that looks okay?
