So i've downloaded the sims 2 and all the expansion packs except freetime pack. I have windows 7 if that matters. I've extracted the 4 files and placed them into C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\Downloads. I can still run sims 2 as usual and play it. I have Set the "Catalogs Display Custom Content" to ON and "Display Custom Content Dialog at Startup" is set to ON as well. So what have i missed?

Pretty sure fruit of life is a TS3 thing. Are you sure you're installing a TS2 object?

Did you read install instructions? All CC goes to Users\(Current User Account)\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\....

If "Fruit" IS a hack (in 4 parts- ?) it WOULD go in Downloads (via Documents/EA etc) , but you can't get to any folder called Downloads via the C-drive (which is where Tork said they put it) - so total confusion.,

I would not touch that mod with a bargepole. It is ancient and almost certainly won't work with any expansion past OFB. Also, it sounds really unfinished and/or badly made.

Which bit did you want out of it? All of those functions can be achieved with newer, more stable mods which are in most cases still supported, or at least widely used (so other users can help with any glitches).

@simsfreq: those who comment think its a good "hack" i just need the part where i can skip the university.

@annaminna: I had to make the "Downloads" folder myself because my sims did not have that folder from the beginning. Yes i read the install instructions and i am pretty sure i got it right but also, I started playing sims 2 3weeks ago and that was the first "hack" i've tried to install.

I would suggest you use a more up to date and known to be reliable uni hack/s. What part of that mod were you interested in?

Yes but those commenters were commenting in 2006, and we know a lot more about the game now. One of the big things that we know now as well is that corruption is not always immediately obvious. Just because something seems to be working fine, doesn't mean that it is. Early or badly made hacks, especially hacks which have not been updated for later expansions, can BREAK your game. Not just mess up a house or something, but actually make the entire neighbourhood unplayable and unfixable, or the game so messed up you have to reinstall the whole thing (and maybe lose your files).

Edit: Am I reading a different comment thread? Over half of those comments are reporting problems with this mod, which the creator doesn't attempt to address, just points them towards different mods. Yes, a lot of them didn't have Pets, but doesn't that tell you that the right combination of EPs is important?

Secondly you say you've installed all four packages. There is a version 2 and version 3 in there together, you would only need one. Installing both could break your game. It's more likely it will just cause bugs with the way the object works but there's no way to know if that is game breaking or not. I doubt you will find anyone on here willing to risk their game to check.

You can skip university with many hacks made by more well known and trusted creators - Christianlov's fake diploma will give any adult a diploma with choosable (and changeable) subject, you can choose the grade too and it gives you a diploma in your inventory, and updates the want slots and locks: http://modthesims.info/d/289704

Cyjon's Semester Changes: Makes university 4 semesters instead of 8 so it is less mind numbingly repetitive and long.

Yeah older hacks often just don't work well with newer EPs. I found that out firsthand when I couldn't find an updated version of the no community plate clearing hack. The older ones just didn't work properly.
