@stitching That lot is SO AMAZING! You can tell a lot of thought and heart went into creating that! I LOVE the fireplace mantle with the mirror and the columns! It SO cool! And the washing machines!! And that training area is super clever! The units and the common areas are so well thought out with all the deco and personal effects! Seriously, everything about that lot is absolutely fantastic! I'm so in love with it! :lovestruc

Default Round 3: Roomie Mania
Sunshine Community Complex

Number of Units: 4
Lot Size: 3x5

Pandora has been seeing a burgeoning economy these past few years thanks to attractions like the casino, oasis spa, night clubs, and artisan market, so many developers have been trying to build places for a spike in the population to inhabit.

The property size of Sunshine is over recommendation, however the Landlord pleaded with the Pandora City permits office to allow a larger plot because of the installation of a pool. The architect could fit four of these units on 3x4 but there was no space for a pool, nor a nice social area. The original layouts of the units were...sad and cramped without the extra space...and Sunshine is synonymous with happiness! So the 3x5 acreage allowance proved to fit room to breathe and mingle, plus the pool is so important because it's the ideal way to spend time outside with others and keep cool during the day in Pandora. The Landlord humbly thanks the permit office for their consideration.

The units accommodate a sim and a room mate they may find over internet or newspaper, or someone they met and think will be a good fit to live with. The roommate gets equal space to live in with equal base furnishings.

The color schemes interiors and exteriors of the complex reflect the desert sands. All kinds of Browns, Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Whites, and Blacks. The exteriors structures all are stucco in the fashion of the arid area, and because of the direct sunlight, solar panels are used in every unit's electric grid to offset rent costs.

Each unit has the same floor plan, however, bedrooms between the front and back units are oriented differently, and units on the left mirror the right's open room kitchen/dining/living floor plan. Each unit has a different dominating interior color and accents as well as decorated with objects variances and a different configuration of living room windows off the front of the unit. Each unit was also inspired by a desert animal. All units use Stucco walling exterior as well as clay and tile for their roofs and entryways.

*Note about pics: I pushed the chairs in to show how they would look in a live-in space but pulled them out for play testing so they were usable.

PUBLIC AREAS
The Sunshine Complex encourages a social atmosphere with thy neighbor. Entrances to the units are just a few steps away from the communal swimming pool, and how nice to step out on the patio and see if any of the other residences are out and about? Enjoy Saturday Pizzas at the outdoor table in the shade. The eating area contains a counter and the communal garbage can for trash drops. The communal pool area has two diving boards, three lounger seating underneath umbrellas, and a towel rack.

Across from the public eating area is the mail compartments and money drop for rent.

Near the back of the property is a long cacti garden, and all entryways to the units are considered public space.

~*~

-THE UNITS-

~*~

Front Right Unit - "The Owl"
Concept: Logic, Knowledge, Night/Dark

My concept for this unit is 'Night Owl' with themes of night and dark. The main room is using black as the predominate wall color - the Patio activity is a telescope, which is mostly used at the night hours. The living room contains a chess table for logic building. The bedrooms also heavily feature dark colors contrasted with various reds. The entrance area contains two wooden chairs and planters, neighbors like to come here and sit and chat across from one another. I was getting a little experiment-y on furniture so the table next to the front door is the black IKEA square one combine with the white octagonal one to create this kind of funique (fun-unique) table sims can put newspapers or bills on.

My vision of the room mates here are that they value the same keen intelligence but in different ways. There's the staunch fact-based logic master and the smart conspiracy theorist who has heavy interests in the supernatural and you can tell which bedroom reflects which. They can clash on the details but will both follow the evidence to come to a conclusion. I imagine these residences to stay up late and bask in the starry night. Whether stargazing or floating on their back in the pool which is open 24 hours. Just imagine...how vast and infinite and beautiful the desert sky would look, especially with so little light pollution in Pandora. These sims probably would favor jobs at the nearby observatory.

~*~
Front Left Unit - "The Coyote"
Concept: Trickster, Fun, Party, Popularity/Pleasure

Coyotes are associated with tricksters and playfulness, so my concept for this was basically an all-inclusive place for pleasure sims to have fun in. This is why they have the bubble blower in their living room and a juice keg in their kitchen. This unit is perfect for parties, and the landlord nor neighboring units won't get up in arms about it because there's no 'thin walls.' The unit is decorated with a dominate dark reddish/brown color and with many yellow, beige, or black accents. They have the biggest TV for watching sports with friends and playing video games, a wet bar for additional drinks on the patio along with music for dancing, The bedrooms indicate the sims have heavy interests in sports games and rock music.

My vision of the room mates here are that they want to rock and roll all night and party every day. They got all they need for the good times to write themselves. They probably are floor house players at the casino, and probably spend a lot of time with Pandora's escorts as well.

~*~

Back Right Unit - "The Rattlesnake"
Concept: Adventure, Movement, Drama and Beauty/Creativity

Decorated with dominating Red and Gold with brown accents. Rattlesnakes are intimidating, and are enchanting in movement, and they shed their skin like a makeover. So the concept of beauty, drama, and movement intertwines in the decor here. The main room is dotted with far east aesthetic, indicating the residences like to travel, and Takemizu is by far their favorite. Other indications of this theme can also be found in their personal bedrooms, which also boast items of interest for Dance, Painting, and Pottery. These themes are also repeated on the patio which has essentially become an outdoor studio for their endeavors and the desert sun does a very good job of drying paint and clay. This unit has one of the best open spaces to dance in the living room to bring out that theme of movement into the main room. The entrance area is a little landscaped area with a tiny bamboo fountain, a step-stool with flowers as well as a wall plant and hanging plant in additiont o the standard desert vegetation bed, there's even a peacock statue in the bed to expound on the creative/beauty theme.

My vision of the room mates in this unit are that they are fiercely creative and possibly competitive with one another which creates a bit of drama. They probably have their own stalls at the artisan market where they sell their pottery and canvases. They love movement in the form of travel and dance, respectively.

~*~

Back Left Unit - "The Armadillo"
Concept: Steadfast and Quirky, Personal and Focused

Decorated in deep red and golden browns, with black and orange accents, the aesthetic is a bit more expensive - the large art canvases, the luxurious lounger, double book shelf, and wine rack/juice pouring area suggest the residents here have a finer taste in decor. Their rooms suggest they are serious about music, possibly seasoned performers with a violin and synth mixer respectively. Like armadillos they kind of dig themselves into a burrow and don't come out for hours while they work, in this case, practicing their instruments. The patio contains an outdoor chess board and some plants that love the sun. The shaded entrance has a little loveseat that neighbors will come sit on and relax while waiting to see if the residents will come out and greet them. The love of music is carried into the living room with a large stereo, I imagine it to be always either be on classic or electronic station while the sims finally come out to cook or eat dinner. Again, I got experiment-y and created a coffee table from combining the ScienStone Coffee table and an orange Qube, which provides neat under-lighting to the harmonious centerpiece.

Obviously, I imagined this unit occupied by sims with serious interests in music, though a bit quirky, composing electronic and playing classical - they have a higher end taste in decor and maybe have jobs performing as a DJ at the night club or busking at the market square playing violin. Maybe one day they will come together and make classical synth music for the world to love.

Round 3 - Blue Horizon Apartment Building
From the left as you are looking at the building:
Apartment 1 - Purple/yellow themed
Apartment 2 - Green themed
Apartment 3 - Blue themed
Apartment 4 - Red themed

Each apartment has two bedrooms, all have a phone on each floor and a smoke detector hidden behind the cooker hood. They all have a trash compacter and a dishwasher in their kitchens and each one has a trash chute in the kitchen area. All have burglar alarms.
There are several communal areas:
Office space, storage space, swimming pool, bbq and seating area, chess set. The communal garden also has a shower and toilet cubicles.

EDIT: There appears to be a problem with attaching screenshots to posts at the moment, which means I am unable to attach my contest entry.

Everyone's entries are looking great! Got inspiration and lots of good ideas from all of them.

Forgot to mention it earlier, though, that my own round 3 will be late--I'm currently out of town for a family event and didn't have time to update everything after playtesting. I'm learning that the quarter tile placement cheat is great for decorating, but definitely requires lots of testing!

I lost track of time. When earlier today I looked at the timer and saw that we only had 15 hours left, I was shocked, I didn't think I could built my entry on time (*cough* I hadn't even started *cough*), which only got worse when I messed up with GridAdjuster (thankfully, I was able to solve the problem myself quite quickly, otherwise, I would've had to rebuild). After some long 10 hours straight building, I finally finished it! Woohoo! But I'm way too tired and tomorrow morning I have a doctor's appointment, so I'll have to post my entry tomorrow afternoon, after the deadline. Sorry about that, but I just can't take pictures and post an entry this late in the night.

Anyway, I'll let you know that my lot has different lighting than usual I used greenhouse walls here and there, which make the room have the outdoor lighting. While good for most apartments, the upstairs lobby was a pain to light up because of that.

EDIT: I don't think so, @ekubrynaffit, since they're deco items, but I can't tell you for sure.

As is the Mansard roofing thats already in game, and been used in previous rounds, so I would have figured this wouldnt be any different. I am going to keep it anyway as I'm only a play along so not a big deal, but was just a lil thought!

Mansard roofing isn't a deco item. Unless you mean the little pieces lined up against the wall. Which are allowed because they're not CC.

The Village Apartments:
Lot Size: 4x3
Apartment Rent: Three-Bedroom - $2691-$2692

When I think of renting and having roommates I always think of this type of place. It's the sort of "Everywhere America" apartment complex that you see in all largish towns. Usually there will be about 10-15 of these buildings and then another 10-15 "family sized" townhouse type buildings. I used this building for inspiration and I personally lived in a place just like this myself with two roommates(and uh.. a fair amount of cats too..) and this building reminds me of that. I built just one of the buildings, and while typically these will have only two bedrooms and the townhomes will have three, for this round I wanted to have three bedrooms for the sake of extra roommates.

There are 8 units. Each apartment comes with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, fire alarm, phone and trash compactor. The fire alarms are above the fridge, the phones are in the kitchen above the counter next to the sink, the trash compactors are in the counter next to the stove.

The common area features a gym, a computer/conference room, and various seating areas that probably nobody will ever use.. (Hey! Just like real life.. lol)

Notes:
- I ran out of time and did NOT have a chance to playtest this lot. I have no reason to believe that it isn't playable but I don't know anything for certain. I'm very sorry and if I get points off for that I totally understand.

- All bedrooms are NOT noiseproofed. I would have had to rearrange the bathrooms and either lose an extra door or a lose a window and I didn't want either of those things.

- There is a burglar alarm in the lobby and also a trash chute, but I'm not sure if this can replace the regular trash can so I left it out front. It's in a little trash "corral" to the right(the little fenced area).

- Also, I purposely made every wall the same color. The majority of these places are just like this and always have very basic off-white walls and don't allow you to paint. Some "fancy" places will allow you to pick a color for an accent wall but this isn't one of those places

And here are the apartments!

ETA: And I just noticed I miscounted and went over the allowed amount of photos. I'm going to leave it, as I don't know which I should cut and it's too late anyway. I'm a total mess today, sorry

ETA: Attached photos now that it is working.

Default Round 3 - Cubis Tower

Cubis Tower is a 6-story tower on a 2x3 lot, although technically there are 8 different levels here: ground floor, split level, 4 floors of apartments, another communal floor and the rooftop. As I mentioned before, I had lost track of time in this round, so this building was put together in the last 15 hours before the deadline. It took me about 10 to completely build it, but I was too tired to take screenshots and post an entry then, so I'm doing it now. Sorry for being slightly late.

Anyway, as I had such a short amount of time to think of a design, I decided to make use of the "Projects" album in Pinterest (which I had made during the time my computer wasn't working lol) and get inspiration from there. I decided to use this image as my lot (and I even snatched the name from there, sorry). I only had the front façade to work it, so the back and sides were designed by me, trying to stay true to the front. The concept art had an additional floor for apartments, but time constraints meant that I had to keep the number of apartments to the minimum required.

Inside, the ground floor lobby could easily have been the lobby of a hotel, with plenty of comfortable seating and plants, as well as some chess tables. If tenants want to embarass themselves in front of the other occupants of the building, the landlord has also provided a contrabass. Either way, each Saturday the landlord hosts a party and a professional musician is hired to play. The ground floor also has two bathrooms. Outside, residents have access to the building's pool. The hallways were kept simple, with some seating, some plants and vending machines on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The fifth floor has a secondary lobby, with some more seating and plants. Throughout the common areas, the colours chosen were light wood tones and cool colours, with nature and the ocean being the inspiration of the décor. With that in mind, the rooftop is accessible from an external staircase on the fifth floor, making for a calm place to relax. An array of solar panels is also installed on the rooftop, allowing the building to harness the beach sun and transform it into clean energy - and cheap rent!

Each unit was decorated in a different colour scheme, with the open plan kitchen, dining and living areas of each apartment having the same natural wood floor and light green wall paint. They are, from bottom to top, the 'Sea Unit', the 'Rose Unit', the 'Earth Unit' and the 'Light Unit' (respectively, blue and green, pink and green, brown, black and white). The next spoilers will show the screenshots of each unit, as well as a more in-depth description of each.

I tried to give an overall sense of cohesion to the units, while also keeping each one unique. For that matter, I tried to incorporate common decorative elements in each unit, like the wall lights that are a chain with little lamps hanging (I don't know its name in the English version, sorry). Every unit is fully furnished and has the appropriate items - fridges, stoves, phones, alarms, trash bin and/or compactor, et cetera. I think each unit has an item for every skill except Logic. For that I have placed a telescope in the rooftop and two chess tables in the lobby, which should be enough. The reason why I end up not placing Logic items in my builds is because, well, non-CC chess tables are hard to fit in modern builds, in my opinion, and telescopes don't always fit, either not having actual space or seeming out of place for the household in mind. That's why I end up having them in common areas.

As this lot was built in the last hours before the deadline, I didn't have time to playtest it. I tried to avoid potential playability problems, but I can't be sure, so I just hope I learnt enough in my two previous rounds (and my previous apartment building experiences for that matter, lol) to have successfully separated what works from what borks. Once again, sorry for being late.

I think I wrote everything I had to write. Enjoy the beach life, roommate!

EDIT: The pictures were taken in my Build/Test hood. You can see my previous two builds there. If you're sharp enough, you might even take a look at the shell I will complete for the next round in one or the other screenshot!

EDIT 2: I missed a good opportunity for a pun! If you C# enough, you can take a look at the shell! OK, I'll walk myself out...

Thanks, @Charmful! I also really liked your desert build. I don't play a desert hood, but your lot, for a moment, made me wish I did!

For me, the pictures are showing normally. I guess maybe saying it was "structure" pics is confusing. I meant the 8 pics we are allowed to showcase the building itself instead of the units. I'll change the wording in the post either way

It might be a browser issue. I'm using Firefox and I see the pictures just fine. I'll try to open this thread with Microsoft Edge and Chrome and see if there's any difference. Either way, as long as they are attached, I don't think there willl be any problem
