Default Encrypting device's internal and SD card
I decided to encrypt both my internal and external SD card on my smartphone.

I used both a 6 digit alphabet and one number as my security code and I also used pattern as a additional precaution.

Is this over kill?

No... I would actually use more than 6 alphabets. I can't remember where I read it but for passwords it's actually exponentially harder to crack the more characters you have.

For example kJeh!4 is easier to crack than cguyencrypt6, with the latter being easier to remember.

It also depends what you have on your phone and how hard you care about your data.
