This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Using downloaded patches from MTS
I'm trying to reinstall The Sims 2. Since the official site is down, I can't install anything. The game tries to connect to the Sims 2 site. I downloaded all the patches I found here. The problem is, when I try to use one of them, they say, the game needs to be installed before that patch even though, when installing, I need that patch to work. What do I do now? I have all eps and most stuff packs.

I'm running Windows 7 and The Sims 2 has worked fine before. It's just the patch problem I'm having.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

Did you install the base game then patch it then install the 1st EP then patch that or what.

Some of the patches are for DVD and some are for CD and some are for downloaded EP/SP.

I installed the first game DVD and patched. All the other expansions and stuff packs say PC CD. I thought installing them in the order they were released would help but no luck.

OK, so you installed the basegame and then installed the basegame patch. And that worked? So next you should be installing University, and then the University patch - is that what you did?

Are you on Windows 8?

Yes. University installs to the point where it needs the patch but when I run the patch I downloaded here, it says University must be installed first. I tried others and got the same message. Windows 7.

Okay, the University installer doesn't mention anything about the University patch, because when the installer was made the Uni patch didn't exist. So what exactly is the Uni installer saying?

It says, "The update process did not complete successfully. Installation will now terminate". Then then the installer starts to count DOWN until it reaches 0% and closes.

It's not installing to the point it needs the patch, it needs the patch after it's put on, not during the installation. Your having a problem with getting your game to install not a problem with the patches.

Are you using a disk? Maybe it's scratched. You could try taking it to a video shop and having them clean it.

Ok, so the problem there is that either your basegame patch isn't installed properly, or the Uni installer can't tell that the basegame patch is installed. I would suggest (groan, I know) uninstalling basegame, then reinstalling and patching the basegame.

Okay, thank you. I'll give that a try. Thanks, everyone! I'll keep you updated with either an installed game or pieces of the game outside the door. hehe

You're not going to believe this but now the computer is saying that the game isn't compatible with Windows 7 Home Edition. The funny part is that it's been running on this platform since the day I upgraded it from XP.

Try running the installer in XP SP2 compatibility mode. The basegame does need to be patched before TS2 will run on Win7, but otherwise it's fine - just Windows being silly.

Re-patch base game again for I had to do that on my machine before Uni would install.

Oh, brother. Do I have a mess now. I installed the Sims 2 dvd and University. Now I'm getting a message saying I have the wrong disc in. This is getting ridiculous. LOL

It sounds like you have more problems with your computer than with the game.

If you have the "restore" option on your computer you may want to do that.

I don't know how good of a tech you took your computer to but a lot of them don't actually remove the virus but just cuts of the head only.

A lot of virus's can and will stop or interfere with the installing of programs.
