[Tutorial] Modeling fog beginner - creating simple table for The Sims 2 - UPDATE 4/28
In this tutorial I will describe how to create simple table for The Sims 2.

Needed:
SimPe, try downloading the latest version
MilkShape 3D version 1.7.3 or higher
3D Studio MAX version 4.0 or higher
Mesh Tool, by Delphy и Miches

The first lesson: " Create a table and put it in game ".

I. Creation clone of table.
II. 1. Create a very simple table model
II. 2. Preparation of model of a table for export
III. Replace clone of table mesh to our Simple table mesh
IV. Putting the Simple table into TS2

It is the end of a first step. The Table in game
But it is not faultless!

The second lesson " How to improve a table "
I shall learn you to use basic tools - "Extrude" and "Loft".

V.1. Preparation model.
V.2. Creating the perfected deck of the table ("Extrude")..
V.3. Creating the perfected legs of the table ("Loft")..
V.4. Creating the perfected frame of the table ..

It looks made of pieces. It does not reject a shadow.

The third lesson "How to change the texture coordinates"
I shall learn you to use tool - "Unwarp UVW"

VI.1. Creating new material and Assign it to model.
VI.2. Change the texture coordinates for deck of the table .
VI.3. Change the texture coordinates for legs of the table.
VI.4. Change the texture coordinates for frame of the table.
VI.5. Assembling of the table.

Thank you for this! I think it's good to start small. Other tutorials don't show using an actual 3D editor like Max, so this is really useful.

You say that exporting from Max to obj is bad? I always use Milkshape, but I see some people say they use the Max obj plugin. What kind of problems does that Max obj plugin cause?

I did not speak " exporting from Max to obj is bad ".
I spoke " exporting from Max to obj is not faultless ".
Probably, I have not absolutely understood with system of units there.
At me this export resulted in simplification of model.

PS: Just I have found out, that 3D MAX versions 7 own export in OBJ already has.
I should try it. But to adjust the sizes I prefer in MilkShap. Taste different.

Default Got stuck
The tutorials are great and straight forward...but I've come to a point where I got stuck...see where it came time to import that .3ds file into MilkShape, the file doesn't show up in the menu.

I think I know why...but am not totally sure...I used Autodesk Gmax, rather than 3ds Max. This could be the case because the file generated with Gmax gave a .gmax extension.

My question is...can I keep using Gmax or do I need to download 3ds Max?

I would prefer to keep using Gmax rather than 3ds Max...but if needed...i'll just download 3ds Max.

You are absolutely right. You will not find a file with expansion *.gmax in the panel " Import - Autodesk 3ds". It show ONLY files with expansion *.3ds .
I am afraid that the MilkShape does not support a Gmax format (*.gmax).
I haven't GMAX and I can not say precisely.
You can try other formats for export from a GMAX if they are in the list of import of a MilkShape.
The most real way - export from a GMAX in a OBJ format.
Your report on these attempts will be interesting to all.

Hey nice tutorial. I have prepared a similar one as well. It follows a different idea though, so i suppose it's better to add variety and choice to the reader, right? You also cover steps for a beginner. My concept is a bit different. I will be explaining the process of converting a high polygon modeling approach into a low poly modeling technique.

Thanks, Ole4ka...I am able to export from gmax to obj...but still milkshape can't read it...i guess i'm just gonna get 3ds Max...that's all there is to it.
