As many people have said, this was unexpected but a very good idea - means less time will be spent wading through threeads to find what we want and more time spent on downloading, helping with beta tests and socialising.
Thanks again Delpy, and all other modders/admins that make this board what it is - the best thats out there

I could understand rats deserting a sinking ship, but the SS MTS2 isn't sinking, it's going to be floating even higher in the water than ever.

...I'm having a identity crisis....I do some self sims, and some basic messing with stuff...(As I can't mesh, program ect.) So I don't know if that qualifies me a s a Modder or not... (I guess it's not important, but it's the only type of thing, I can contribute :weep
So my question is, Is there still going to be the 'self-sims' section? Help, I'm feeling guilty for being a dowloading socilizing, self-simmer :D

I think after all the dust settles after the move, everyone will find this is a great idea. This way people will have the best of both worlds.

Great news. Will definately make MTS2 easier to navigate and work with.
I look forward to all the wonderful things that MTS2 shares, and hope to be able to contribute more so when my work commitements allow me to.

I do think it's a Great idea! Those who wants to Download, test.. This will make it easy as the others would rather Post to socialize. I do have a question though. When half of the Forms is moved to a new website. Are we still able to PM others on MTS2 or will that be on the new Website?

Think of it like having memberships at two sites.
Since every MTS2 member who registered on or before July 3 is automatically a member at the new site, you can PM them at either place. But if it's obvious that they stick to only one site, it would be wise to PM them there.
There will be new people who join after the new site is opened. Those people would have to register with each site seperately if they want memberships at both sites.
And here are some answers for other people's questions:
The site name and url will be announced as soon as Dr. Frankenstein (AKA Delphy) finishes hacking V-Bulletin to the satisfaction of his mad-scientist's heart's content He *might* get done sooner if someone ships him a crateload of Red Bull ... and some pizza ...
Downloads aren't leaving the site any time soon. And if they leave, they will not be deleted. They would be moved. They would look exactly the same. The only difference would be the url address in your browser bar. And they will always be FREE. I have no idea why anyone got upset about that :wtf2:
As for people who are wondering which forums are moving and staying, read Delphy's first post again. The forums in his list are the forums that are moving. Translation: the forums in his list are the forums that are moving I simply can't think of a clearer way to explain it.
So what if you make object recolors, but you want to discuss things in the War Zone? That's not a problem -- you have memberships at both sites. It's not a big deal, really.
Overall, I'm glad that most people seem happy with the change. I can't wait to get the new site open!

I would first like to thank Delphy, and all of the other moderators, and contributors who have made this site, and kept it going. Especially for free with voluntary donations. This site has been (will continue?) to be an amazing place unlike anything else the web has to offer. Nowhere else I have seen (in my language anyway) offers the opportunities to learn the ins and outs of modding the Sims2 as well as (or as free as) this site. It would take a great deal of love for modding this game to put in the amount of effort, and finances required to maintain this place. So to those responsible, you have my deepest regards, and respect.
That said, I have a few questions...
If I am understanding this correctly, there will essentially be no change to the site other than the server/domain of the posting communities? Or will there be something more significant happening? My only real concerns are that the posting community will become a non-simming run-of-the-mill messaging site, and that this one will slowly become too technically oriented for most of us who want to learn modding to follow...
As far as downloads are concerned, I can't imagine why people are so afraid of them being deleted. I mean if the purpose of this site is to modthesims2, then the downloads section is the end result of that modding. What would be the point of modding the sims2 if no one had anything to show for it? If the idea were to have a few select modders modding, and keeping the results to themselves, then why would this place exist in the first place?
Like I said, the only real concerns I have are that if there are not enough ties/links between the sites, that the modding community will separate, and therefore diminish, as less people will be exposed to modding, and catch the modding bug.
(One other question)
I assume that this will seriously affect the private posting page? Our personal list of threads we have posted in that we access from the "My profile" page? I use that a lot to check on older threads I have been involved in to see if they have been updated.
(Ok, one more, lol)
What effect will this have, if any, on the threads in the downloads section? Ie., the thank you, and/or issue with said item posts.
Any moderator, or Delphy, if you could clarify my concerns for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Other users... Why are you abandoning ship? I noticed this myself in browsing through the forums, and downloads section. Nothing is sinking here as far as I can see.
Think of this site as a race track in which the purpose is to race (mod), and the cars represent the bandwidth of this site. At some point, the drivers started to allow passengers (forums) in their race cars. The cars also have modifications/customizations (downloads). At some point, the number of passengers started to weigh down the cars to the point where they weren't able to keep up to speed (low bandwidth). So the drivers got together and created a stadium (new site) for the fans to socialize in while they watch the races. If the downloads are ever moved, it will be like the customizations of the cars being put in the pit stop, to be accessed when needed, rather than also weighing down the cars.
At least that is what I am getting out of all this. So stop deserting. The race track isn't closing, it's expanding.
Is the glass half empty or half full? Who cares when the glass is broken.

Can't wait for the change. Interested to see how the new "sites" will look like.

Yes the list of subscribed threads will no longer work. You'll have a seperate list.
One thing I think I need to clarify again - as tkd pointed out, they will be two seperate sites. There will be nothing shared between them after launch so to all intents and purposes they act totally independantly of each other.
We can then add forums to the socialise site without worrying about if it's applicable to modding or not, and the same with the mts2 site.
kamyk, no idea what you mean about threads in downloads since they are NOT moving.
My reasoning behind downloads (which again are NOT BEING REMOVED) is this: MTS2 is supposed to be about modding, and yes the end result is a download, but the entire site has changed into basically a download site, which is a totally different beast to a modding site. For a Sims 2 download site to work effectively in my eyes there has to be better information regarding custom content, as well as a much better search interface which just simply isn't possible with vBulletin. Remember, the downloads forums take up way more than half of the total posts here.
As for those who are saying "Too late" - thats fine. If you do not want to participate in the new site thats your own business.
Hope this clears things up.

Too bad you can't sticky posts because some of them in this thread should definately be stickied. Not that it would help.

Well, I just donated yesterday--and recently before that...I swear! I just never seem to get the simolean sign for some reason...
Between the 2 donations, I hope you can get yourself some pizza and redbull, Delphy--god knows you must need it by now.
And don't forget to sleep for god's sake!
