This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3, World Adventures, Ambitions
Default placing trees in edit town
When I try to place trees in edit town the "roots" show. I've seen this in down loaded worlds too.

Since you can't select a tree how do get the "roots" in the ground?

All default. It works fine placing them on lots.

Ah, you're trying to place them in the world, outside of lots with the World Editor tool in Edit Town! Yeah, well, nothing can be done then; that's how this tool works. CAW has the option to move opjects up or down, World Editor doesn't, and for some mysterious reason EA decided that trees should by default be placed like half-extracted teeth.

No idea. I think there are people who have successfully modified an existing game in CAW, but as far as I know it is neither recommended nor really easy. I'd rather not try it and either live with the uprooted trees or abandon the idea altogether. But I've never used CAW, so I am not really an expert in these things.

Yes, there has been some success with this but I've not tried it on the more recent gameversions.

Thank you for the links simsample, though it's bit over my head. I just want to pretty up the world. Lol.
It seems only some of the EA trees show "roots". Some look fine. I've download a mod that allows placement of shrubs in edit world so can hide the "roots".
Another mod adds many shrubs in build mode but they don't show up in edit town.
Adding a lot to place background trees and such sometimes works. Though I often can't place a lot where I want. Unroutable the game says.

Hehe, your method of adding shrubs sounds a lot easier.
