It probably might work?

I have an Asus gaming laptop from five years ago with older hardware on it, and the Sims 3 has worked flawlessly on it to this day.

Yes, it should be fine. However, given the QC issues TS3 software has, you may very well still get occasional lags and assorted annoyances. No hardware will ever overcome all those problems. Make sure you pick up some goodies over on NRaas like Overwatch to help out with assorted and sundry problems like stuck sims and horses in the subway. Otherwise, you should be good to go.

Note, not sure how much leeway your budget has, but getting and SSD instead of a plain HD will really make the laptop sing. You'll still have load times of TS3 of a few minutes, but much faster than from a HDD, and Win itself will feel like "instant on" on boot up. They've gotten much cheaper in the past year or two, so if you can swing it, go for it. If it's currently out of your budget, put it on your wish list for down the road (and migrating to one later on is extremely easy).

Unless you have a super computer, no PC can run this without lag, I was almost hitting 4000 FPS in loading screens...

Yeah, companies like advertising laptops as "i5" or "i7" which is meaningless without the actual model number. The one in this laptop is an i5 4210H, a dual-core 2.9GHz processor.

I have...well, not a super computer but a pretty expensive one (i7 6700k, 16GB RAM, 290X graphics card), all expansions and 12.5GB split across Store items and custom content. Even with a boatload of Nraas mods, I still get lag on my game. Like said, it's a limitation of the game architecture/engine.

you probably don't have FPS limiter installed I suppose, lucky TS3 haven't fry your graphic card, no super computer needed to fry one.., TS3 can do it very well.. lol
