World Concept: Culturally Vibrant LN City
I've been sitting on an idea for a few days. I was looking for a creator feedback forum, but I decided this was the best place for my rambling ideas.

Bridgeport has been my favorite world available since Late Night was released, but I have always felt that it left much to be desired. I am not a "bar going" type of person, I never have been, so the game play options in that world never "worked" for me. Bridgeport's "down and dirty" personality clashes with the lifestyle that I like my sims to have. I play this world simply for the atmosphere, and I usually converted many of the community locations into different kinds of venues. For example, I'd turn the vampire lounge into a casino with the items that came with Lucky Palms. Still, Bridgeport's downtown simply lacks the space to create some "city" locations that I'd love to create. I have worked in department stores since I was 14 and I have always thought a luxury department store in the Sims 3 sounded like a fun build. The Bridgeport world also lacks a real suburban area that I would have liked to see. I digress.

My brother suggested that I simply edit Bridgeport in CAW and add the space for the locations I want. This idea has been done before, and you can find posts dating back a few years that aimed to create a more realistic city-like atmosphere in Bridgeport. For this reason, I don't want to edit Bridgeport.

I have also for a long time really wanted to create a world that made use of multiple expansion packs and used their features in which everything flows. I really enjoyed playing Simsamples' Jericho world, but it wasn't quite "huge city like" enough for me. I have decided to create a world of my own. (Finally! I got to the point!)

I plan to use this thread to acquire ideas and to start sharing builds I've created to place in my world. I plan on building some lots before sculpting my world because this will better help me to decide just how to lay it out. Please share your thoughts, constructive criticism, and other notes as you like, if I didn't want them I would have posted.

The idea is to create a city that is full of a variety of things for the simmies to do, and just in general create a culturally vibrant and interesting atmosphere.

Current City location ideas
Farmer's Market
Ped Mall
Luxury Department Store
Multiple Museums
A Mansion Museum with a large park and cutting gardens
Boutiques, Coffee Shops, Restaurants
Art Centered District
Science and Business District

Here (attached) are some source images that I want/plan to use as inspiration.

I'm a city girl and love the cultural possibilities in sims. In my world Stranda, i made lots of cultural sites like the entertainment venues from Showtime, several coffee shops and restaurants, I love food and drink.

I stayed away from big department stores, because so many people around the time, said it was hard to run and had multiple problems.

OP, I know exactly how you feel about Bridgeport! Although Bridgeport was impressively built, I never liked how gloomy it felt and felt it was lacking something, so I also started creating cities from scratch rather than edit Bridgeport. Right now I'm in the process of building a new city similar in feel to what you're talking about, with several different districts (Downtown, garden, military), each with their own distinct look and feel.

PS-- the picture you posted of the Jefferson Market is a famous landmarked building here in NYC. It used to be a courthouse. Now it's a library.

Really? What did people say about them?

I sat down and played around with the CAW tools some, I find that I'm really bad at terrain sculpting.

I'm glad you enjoyed Jericho! It's more of a town than a city, really.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

For the terrain sculpting, you could start off with a heightmap or make one of your own. We have heightmaps to download and tutorials for making them in our CAW section.

You can get real-world heightmaps easily, and mod them to your own requirements.

You can download height maps from places. I know there is some tutorials around here somewhere for how to install them.

On big lots, it's a bit of a science. It depends on what zone you use and how it works with attracting sims. There is limitations in the game for how many sims can come to certain lots. The modders can probably help you on that, or you can just search around mts. Lots of previous threads on the subject around.

I made one of those Italian Placa lots, I love Rome and all the free entertainment you can have around: http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=524643

I guess it depends on what you really want to go for. Is it a bunch people or can you just settle for a few. I'm perhaps a bit too friendly sometimes with people with low-end computers, so I just used some of those sets from the store and thought it ok when my tester at the time found some waiters and some nice sims to talk to. It was a bit oversized, but it had the right atmosphere.

I see I have mentioned a few limitations on the description and they are forgotten long time ago. Good thing I wrote those down there lol.

World building is a very wide area expertise, you need to know a little bit about everything. MTS has a lot of old knowledge around, but then it's an old program and what was is likely to still work. Google is recommended. I learned a lot from just reading a bunch of infor from all over the place.

Thank you! I found it later on! I will contemplate starting a new thread there in some time maybe when I have something substantial for people to critique. I may ask a mod if it can be merged or something at that time too.
