This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Disk isn't recognized
Yesterday I played my sims, no problem. Today, I put in my Sims 2 Apartment Life disk, click the launcher, click on play and....nothing. The computer makes some noise, trying to read the disk, then it stops and nothing happens. My game won't start. I checked My Computer and there it shows the Apartment Life Icon in the D: drive, with Sims2EP8 as text. So my computer does know the cd is there...it just won't start my game

I haven't downloaded anything since yesterday, changed nothing, so I don't know why it's doing this.

First try and restart your computer with the AL cd/dvd in the drive and then try and start up your game.

Its is either your cd/dvd drive has gone bad, a scratch disk or dirty disk or you have the SecurROM bug.

If its not dirty/scratch or bad drive then go here and get the tool https://support.securom.com/removaltool.html

Okay, so that didn't work. As far as I can tell, it;s not dirty or scratched. So, maybe faulty drive? I'm not sure how to test this. Try it with something else, I guess, but the Sims 2 is the only game I've got installed. Would testing it with a DVD work? Or should I try the securom solution first?

I've also read that you can get a patc from here: http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/game...ment_life.shtml that will allow you to play the game without a CD in the drive, although you still need a valid serial number. I'm not entirely sure I get how that works, but would that be a solution if the drive is bad?

Did you try deleting the cache files? http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?tit...ete_Cache_Files.

No worries I've had it happen a couple of times, so it's the first thing I think about now :P
