Default Sims 2 Buildings please comment
Ok I am showing you all a sample remodel of the BV Mansion that I did recently. I just realized that I did this one at night, I will try and remember to set it to day next time. Pics are of the new Larson house in Strange Town.

I will suggest you find a decent size mansion to copy. It's always difficult to come up with a look and floorplan on your own.

You can just google for floorplans and mansion floorplan and see pictures.

I have other buildings that I create from scratch and I plan to post some of them later in this thread.

At the moment I just wanted to show one of the pre-made ones that I always remodel and usually I do it this way or something fairly similar. I frequently re-model a pre-made house if I plan to play it, but this is one that I do a more radical remodel that I am fairly consistent about.

A suggestion, maybe organize the positions of the windows a bit more? They look a teeny all over the place, like they were placed after the rooms were built and placed from the inside, not taking the outside's positioning into account. Hope this is helpful!

Thanks, I tend to do my buildings and remodels on the fly, which is of course why the windows looks the way they do. lol

I will try and be more cognizant of the windows.

The most important thing I think you should work on is a design for your houses that makes Starbucks and the pet shop look different. I think you should work on a proper floorplan for each house before you do anything else.

You can start easily by just adding and substracting from the main shape, or look something up on Google.

lordtyger9, what kind of feedback are you looking for? Are you wanting tips on improving? I need much larger closer pictures to be able to suggest anything but the most general things.

The first step though would be to look at how you can alter your buildings shape so they are not a square or rectangle. Also look at real buildings and take notice of the layout and colours and window placement.

I will try and do closer pictures in the future.

Looking for general tips on improving.

I do most every one of them either square or a rectangle btw. heh.

The buildings are bigger than they need to be, if that is all that is going to be in them. I would suggest laying out the furnishings on the ground, move them around until you are happy with them, and then build around them. If you are building for your own use only, rectangle is fine. Lots of buildings IRL are rectangles. I have attached a few screenshots to show how a simple change can add more interest to a build. And yes, closer screenshots next time.

Two simple things would be to cut away some of your buildings to make them slightly different shapes. L or U works. You can also do the same with room shapes and this instantly will make your house look more interesting.

Second is to reduce your room size. Large rooms are fine if there is a point to them being large but not if it just has basic furniture. So for example the bedroom with red carpet. I think that is a double bed and a chest of draws in it? A good size would be the double bed with room to walk around it, perhaps a vanity table and a chest of draws. You normally could not fit another double bed into a master bedroom. That room could be cut into two master bedrooms. Or one end could be an office/nursery or sewing room.

A simple floor plan can be a good way to break out of the rectangle or square shape as a base. http://e-partenaire.com/2016/07/26/...me-floor-plans/

Thanks for the tips on improvements, since I do make my buildings for my own enjoyment I will likely continue to make squares or rectangles as that is I what I like best, however I will keep the tips in mind and make some more offices and sewing rooms etc instead of just really large bedrooms, also making the rooms around the furnishings sounds like a good idea.

I did actually install one downloaded lot, The Apple Store {I think it was by pacotacoplayer}, but that is the only one, most of the time they aren't compatiable given that I don't have FT and AL or M&G, so I just figured I would make my own even if I don't make them as well as some other people. I figure I can improve a bit though, so thanks for being helpful everyone.
