Is there a way to hide all the Maxis Careers?
I've been making my neighborhood all Star Trek and I've created a bunch of different Starfleet career paths for my Sims, but in order for any of them to start any of my custom jobs, I have to use the testing cheats because they're so far down the list that they never show up on the computer or the newspaper. Is there a way to hide all the Maxis base careers so that my custom careers actually get offered to my Sims?P.S. I have the Ultimate Collection, if that makes a difference...

You could make your careers replace maxis careers, by using the same "guid" as the career. I don't know how exactly, but I know it's possible.

I think you just use the same GUID. If you make a career (for download here anyway), you have to change the GUID (and say so on the upload thread) because otherwise, it will overwrite the career it was cloned from.

Okay, well, they all have unique GUIDs now, so how do I find all the GUIDs of the Maxis careers to override them?

It's generally done by cloning the existing career and inserting the custom material into the clone. However, you can read the GUID in the clone file. There are a set of clones about somewhere because someone extracted all the careers to make it easier for people to make their own.

Thanks! I found the base career clones and downloaded them. I'll let you know if it works!

Why don't you use job seeker ?

First, it did not work. It moved the Starfleet jobs to different spots on the testing cheats list, but they still didn't show up on the computer, and worse than that it made it so that no one would obey any sort of go to Work command. They just stood up and then cleared the queue. Bizarre. So I've undone that...
Second, I didn't use job seeker because I'd never run across it. That looks sweet! Thanks! Problem solved in a new and exciting way! High five to Curls77!

Has anyone ever run into this won't got to work problem? Because it's persisting. Not in all cases, but randomly my Sims will suddenly (and without notification) appear as promoted to the top of whatever career track they're on, but they will no longer go to work to earn any money... Like I said, it's not everyone, but once it hits someone the only cure for it seems to be to kill and resurrect them (which obviously messes with their relationships pretty badly. Can anyone help me fix this?

Hmmm - that sounds like a mod conflict issue. It might be the fact that only the GUID was changed (if that's what you did). Maybe you need to default the careers. Why not just make custom ones and ignore the game ones?

Well, I am just ignoring the game ones. They came about by downloading a Starfleet career from MTS2, and then being like "Everyone gets the same career info? That's just silly." So I cloned that one, which I think it was originally a mod of the Slacker career, a bunch of times. But I didn't have any issues until I tried to give them the GUIDs from the other game careers to hopefully replace those defaults. But then when that didn't work, I undid it and put them all back to the unique GUIDs I'd gotten from registering them with my SimPE name; their default GUIDs and fallbacks GUIDs were then reverted to the Slacker ones. Issues got better, but still happen occasionally. And that's where we are now.
What does Defaulting them mean? How do I do that?

Defaulting means making a file which you put in Downloads which will replace the EAxis content. It's to do with how the game reads the files. When it loads, it reads the game files first (usually on C drive) then everything in My Documents including everything in your Downloads folder. What happens then is that if there is anything in Downloads with the same GUID as something in the game files, it will use the version it read last (the version in Downloads) and use that. That's why the game is so moddable. It's extremely easy to replace stuff. It might be that careers have more to it than just one GUID (otherwise what you did should have been a 'default') either that or you have other problems and after what you've just said, it might be that. GUIDs are all important - it's how the game finds stuff.

Why don't you attach here one of the careers that gives you that problem, so others could have a look in it and perhaps see where is the problem?
Since Sims never stop going to work unless they quit or get retired, I'd think your 10th level of career is set badly, without any working days (they don't get salary while on days off) - but that's just a guess; and if that's the issue, it's easy to correct it in SimPE.

Included is my counseling career. I think it has messed up, but I'm not entirely sure. I've also included the Command career, which I know has massed up at least once. Please have a look and tell me what you find. Sorry for the delay; 4th of July weekend and all that...

Unfortenatelly, my guess (that would be easy to fix) was wrong, and I couldn't see in your careers nothing that would cause the problem you described.
But here are couple of things that I found bit akward, and perhaps changing them would help.
1) Both your careers are based on the Science career, yet they both carry on Guid from original Starfleet career that was based on Athletic.
Put in Original Guid and Fallbackguid values of career you are based on - in this case Science.
Original Guid=0x4C9EB6CD and Fallback=0x0C9EBD47.
2) There are some strange numbers in BCON Tuning Flags. Again, I'd set them equal to science as well : 0x0000, 0x0000 and 0x0140.
3) BCON Tuning- Chance Card Levels tells your game that there are cards for each level. It's told before that it can and does happen that game calls card set to 0% of happening in which case can affect some skil or money if the fields of that card are not empty.
StarfleetCounseling: In Chance Cards on 8th level, altho it's set to 0% of happening and has no question, it does give some values to logic (fail B). Similarly, on Level 6 you give a promotion on Pass B. I didn't check them all. Make sure that all non-used Chance cards have no text anywhere and no effect on any skil or money.

Lifetime Wants also should be considered to match the type of carreer. It's kinda silly to put military oriented career (as your seem to be) and have romance LTW of slacker - just for example.
Perhaps you should consider remaking your careers on cloned maxis original career, not custom one, which could have problems inside. Somewhere on MTS are extracted all original Maxis careers (I can't seem to find a link). Or you could clone one.
Then export all relevant BCONs and Text LIsts from your carreer and with them replace existing in cloned one. Give it your GUID, but leave others as they are. It's bit of work, but at least you wont need to retype it all. No need to replace any BHAV nor BCONs you haven't customised (Top Memory, Flags, TPO etc) which btw are likely to cause you a problem.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
