Whats wrong with the one there born with?

You can do it with SimPE and also you can use christianlov "Sim Cloner 080706 A + Custom Skintone Selector" http://modthesims.info/d/284572

From the looks of it Christianlov's mod seems to just create a whole new sim, not fix and existing one. Best bet is to use Sim Surgery in SimPE to edit the sim's skin tone. If you did that I would advise you to backup your 'hood first.

Its 2 mods in one and the one I am talking about is this one. (It down below the Sim Cloner.)

CustomSkintoneSelectorPrototype You can change skintone in game.

And you don't use Sim Surgery to change skintone.

I've used the skinchanger, it's a bit complicated at first but once it's set up it's quite easy. It isn't however a genetic change, only cosmetic like dying your hair.

If you're comfortable with editing your sims in SimPE, here's a good tutorial.

Sim Surgery changes the sim to a new sim and it might have a diff. skintone but you are getting a brand new sims instead of just changing the color of the skin.

Both SimPE under the DNA tab and christianlov "CustomSkintoneSelectorPrototype" mod will only change the color of the skin with SimPE able to make it genetic.

You can go the long rout and clone your sims and make a new sim with the clone using the skintone you want and then using Sim Surgery to change your sim but why go through all than when you have SimPE and just changing the DNA will do the trick.

Huh. Really? That's odd. I've done it lots of times and I've never had a new sim created. Do you mean the sim is replaced with a new sim totally? They always seem to keep all of their memories etc for me. I thought it was a harmless way to copy a skin tone from one sim to another.

I don't make a clone, BTW. I just find a sim with the skintone I want, use them as the base sim, select "use skintone only" and the sim I want to change as the target sim and click surgery. Done.

I will have to admit I have really only used Sim Surgery to only extract sims with and never knew you can just change the skintone only but still you have to start up SimPE and chose your hood and then start up Sim Surgery and while SS is starting up you could have already change the DNA on 2-3 sims and have been done.

Yes, I agree with simsfreq. That used to be the advice often given by others in changing skintones, and considered by many (at least back in the day) who know a whole lot more about it than I do to be a safe method. I've done this for a few years now.

Hey, it could be bad advice. Sometimes, what people considered safe years ago turns out to be not-so-safe. And it would be too late for my servos/androids (since really, I don't want a bunch of them with S1 skintones alone, so I use frequently SimPE to change those). But I would want to know this in the future. And unless Christianlov did something different with the skintone changer in the combination download, I might have to resort to doing that, anyway. I did not have good experiences with the skintone changer alone.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

I believe either changing the code under the DNA tab or sim surgery is fine, I have done it both ways, but only once through sim surgery. I had a sim who's body went invisible when she took a bath (a downloaded sim without a shower proof skin) and I was told how to do sim surgery to her and that worked fine. That was a long time ago and these days I prefer to change the DNA codes.

Sim Surgery, in itself, doesn't create a new sim. It copies data (face, skin tone, etc.) from an existing sim in the same 'hood to that sim. I don't think it's genetic either. Changing the sim's appearance won't change its genetics, and vice versa.

So, if there's a sim of the same age/gender group with the skin you want your toddler to have, you can use sim surgery to copy their skin to your toddler's skin. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell ya.

OK, good to know Marka, I guess different strokes for different folks. I would never remember the DNA codes so it would take me just as long to look up the code for a particular skin tone than it would to just copy one from another sim.

I have the Maxis codes saved and simply change to one of those, then the sim takes on my default skin. No one could remember the codes.
