Default Proof-reading for my Genius career
Hello dear people.
I uploaded a career recently and although it was accepted, the moderator gave me the advice to post my texts here in the future, so that a native speaker can help me with my translations. As there seem to be some bigger errors in this one, I thought I should ask for help even though it is online already. I really want people to enjoy my work and would be happy about any corrections you could make.

Thanks in advance and here are the texts:

Career description
Genius (E)
1. Extra work
You volunteered to analyse and categorize the rock samples, your teacher brought from an expedition. It could be a good opportunity to have some alone time with your crush but stupidly he’s not the only one who has detention but also his gormless friend. It would be probably the best to focus on your task and to acquaint yourself with the mechanics of the MFE.
2. Genius
You don’t remember what exactly happened that night but since then you have these flashes and the irresistible urge to implement your ideas at once. Physical, chemical and biological coherences, you figure them out in a second and your new powers enable you to invent the most amazing things, be it the shrinking ray, the truth serum or even the reality manipulator. Your crush has the same powers, another reason why you should be together. Until he’s ready to accept this, you can use your gift to consolidate your power, in secret, of course.
3. Genius
Finally you know how you became geniuses. A magnetic field analyser and a prehistoric stone, probably a meteor, but something seems to be missing, a key or some order you have to type into the MFE. Your favourite foe seems to possess this key and with his annoying habit to cross your plans, he may actually try to take the gift from you. Otherwise you still hope that he finally realises that you two are meant to be.

Genius (T)
1. Detention
This seems to have been one stupid remark too much and your teacher gave you detention. Together with your buddy you have to clean the amphibian tank. And if this wouldn’t be bad enough the teacher’s pet will be there to analyse and categorize the rock samples, your teacher brought from an expedition. She’s actually quite nice, only a little too pushy, concerning her affection towards you.
2. Genius
You don’t remember what exactly happened that night but since then you have these flashes and the irresistible urge to implement your ideas at once. Physical, chemical and biological coherences, you figure them out in a second and your new powers enable you to invent the most amazing things, be it the cloned dinosaur, the invisibility spray or even the time portal. Your classmate has the same powers, what is problematic, because unlike you she has no scruples to use them to her own advantage. Try to control her and be careful that your powers stay a secret. You don’t want to end in a government laboratory, do you?
3. Genius
Finally you know how you became geniuses: a magnetic field analyser, a prehistoric stone, probably a meteor and frog, hopping over the keyboard. Using the probability theory and an extensive testing series it wasn’t a big problem finding out which orders he was “entering”. Now you have everything you need to control the gift. You want to be normal again but you can’t give up your genius as long as your friend/foe is still active. It will be not easy to defeat her as she was very cunning even before the accident.

Chance Cards
(E)
Level 1
You were really looking forward to your joint evening but the buddy of your crush is a mood-killer unparalleled. Do you want to try to ease the situation with a joke or do you let out your bad mood?
Choice A: Make a joke
Good:
The joke wasn’t exactly a big laugh, but you were able to charm a little smile from your crush and he seems to appreciate that you tried. You win a charisma point.
Bad:
Jokes were never your strong side and the absence of any reaction makes the evening even more uncomfortable. You lose a charisma point.
Choice B: Blow off steam
Good:
This idiot actually thinks he can clean the tank faster by sucking in this gross water. You just want to tell him what a stupid idea this is as he already swallows some of it and runs off. You cover up the MFE so that no water comes into the cable system, earning a mechanics point.
Bad:
You ask your crush why he’s wasting time with this idiot but he reacts very defensive. You lose a charisma point.

Level 2
Your opposition seems to tinker with time travel and you should find out why. Do you try to hack his computer or do you use the teleporter to search his bungalow?
Choice A: Hack
Good:
So, that’s what he’s planning. He tries to find out how you two became geniuses. At least you’re warned now and can prepare for eventual attacks.
Bad:
You try to hack his system but he owns a very effective firewall and realises your attack at once. You two have a downright battle until suddenly your computer is dead. You lose a mechanics point.
Choice B: Teleporter
Good:
You beam to the bungalow and must recognize that the time portal was already disassembled again. However, you use the opportunity to cast a glance at some of your honey’s other inventions, earning a mechanics point.
Bad:
You want to beam to the bungalow but your crush was prepared and manipulated your teleporter. You materialise one meter above the bay and have to walk home soaking wet, losing a cleaning point.

Level 3
He has everything he needs to destroy you: the stone, the MFE and the key. Do you want to send your muscle with some of your more dangerous inventions to steal the MFE or do you choose a more subtle way?
Choice A: Send the muscle
Good:
He is everything but a brainiac but he’s quite good for the rough work. He can bring you the MFE and you earn a logic point because the danger is banished.
Bad:
It was no good idea to send him with your inventions. He acts completely noticeable and you have to invest a lot of effort and a logic point to camouflage his indiscretion.
Choice B: Ceasefire
Good:
You whip your most seductive dress on and arrange a secret meeting with your crush. Like you expected, he tries to set a trap but you were prepared. Your contingency plan works perfect as your teacher appears the exact moment to foil the attack. You earn a logic point for your neat play.
Bad:
You whip your most seductive dress on and arrange a secret meeting with your crush. However, you have to realise that he set a trap for you to take your gift from you. Luckily you were prepared and can escape but this is a major setback for your relationship. You lose a charisma point.

(T)
Level 1
Your classmate once more tries to throw herself at you. Do you want to tell her point-blank that she has no chance or do you prefer a more cautious way?
Choice A: Clear answer
Good:
She actually wants to persuade you that you deserve better company than your friend, meaning herself, of course. You tell her point-blank what you think of her and earn a charisma point for standing with your friend.
Bad:
You tell her point-blank that she has no chance. As you see how hurt she is, however, you have a bad conscience, losing a charisma point.
Choice B: Cautious answer
Good:
You try to tell her that you aren’t the right partner for her and even though she doesn’t seem to be convinced she gives up for tonight. You get half a charisma point.
Bad:
You try to tell her that you aren’t the right partner for her but she just keeps fondly smiling at you. You lose a logic point.

Level 2
You learn by chance that your teacher installed a surveillance cam in the laboratory after several incursions. As you realise that your friend/foe already was recorded you’re up to a difficult choice. Do you help her to steal the tape before your teacher sees it or do you let it happen that she is caught?
Choice A: Help her
Good:
Even though you don’t like to admit it, you don’t want something bad happen to her. Also it would mean a risk also to you if she is caught. Together you manage to steal the tape the very last second, earning a logic point.
Bad:
It would mean a risk also to you if she is caught, so you have no choice but to help her. In the very last second you manage to steal the tape. However, you can’t suppress the feeling that you lost a onetime opportunity and a logic point.
Choice B: Not help her
Good:
You don’t interfere and your classmate has some explaining to do. Although she manages to keep her powers secret somehow she is now under permanent surveillance what means a major setback for her experiments. You earn a logic point.
Bad:
You don’t interfere and want to lean back, watching how she manages to get out of the affair. Instead you must realise the she incriminates you as well and she even doesn’t have to lie therefore. Now you both need to join forces to somehow fix the situation, losing two logic points.

Level 3
You made it. She’s trapped in you tractor beam and all you have to do to make both of you normal again is to type the last sequence into the MFE. But while you’re busy, she asks you if you really want to destroy her and you hesitate. As she starts crying begging you not to hurt her, you don’t know any more if you’re doing the right thing.
Choice A: Execute the plan
Good:
If you ever want to become normal again, you have no choice. You want to enter the last order as you hear your teacher coming, obviously a part of her contingency plan. As fast as possible you have to disable tractor beam and MFE. You now lost a crucial advantage as your teacher confiscates the MFE and you are in big trouble. Don’t despair, not everything is lost. You still are the only one to know the key.
Bad:
If you ever want to become normal again, you have no choice. You want to enter the last order as you hear your teacher coming, obviously a part of her contingency plan. As fast as possible you have to disable tractor beam and MFE, having no time left to run. You are in big trouble now, losing a logic and two charisma points.
Choice B: Let her go
Good:
Your wish to become normal again doesn’t give you the right to force your decision on her. You deactivate the tractor beam and after she looks at you for some moments, unbelieving, she runs off, leaving you at least with an extra charisma point.
Bad:
Your wish to become normal again doesn’t give you the right to force your decision on her. You deactivate the tractor beam and after she looks at you for some moments, unbelieving, she runs off. She hardly left as you start to regret you decision. Despairing over your dilemma you lose two charisma points.

I tried not to "correct" any spelling that only looks wrong to me because it's British rather than American, and tried to keep the wording as close to your own voice as possible, though in a couple of places I felt I needed to change a painful grammatic construction or formal word choice for something more idiomatic and colloquial.

Some would say that the Oxford comma is not necessary in a list of three items, but they're wrong.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

I didn't know I have a formal word choice. I also never heard of the Oxford comma. In German it is absolutly wrong to put a comma before and or or.
Anyway thank you very much for your corrections. I will use them at once.

PS: I'm not sure what to do with the thread now. Should I mark it as closed or delete it?

Hey, you did the best you could. Better than I'd have done in German even when I wasn't rusty. At no point did I have to ask for clarification about what you meant, and that's the main thing.

The Oxford comma is a little controversial, because some people insist it isn't necessary, but those of us who KNOW BETTER understand that not using it can be confusing in some cases, most notably when the list includes one or more sets of items that don't have a collective noun. For instance, if you were listing the subfolders inside your Downloads/Build folder, the list: Columns, fences, windows and doors and gates is confusing without the Oxford comma - is one of the folders named "windows and doors" or is one named "doors and gates?" Listing: Columns, fences, windows and doors, and gates makes it clear what all the folders are named. When I was doing word processing for a real estate appraisal company, countless sentences would have been ambiguous without the Oxford comma. And this is why you can have my Oxford comma when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Ugly is in the heart of the beholder.

What you could do Jonas, if you want to do it and you like Peni's help here, is

1. make the changes in your career files as Peni's suggestions using SimPE as you did originally
2. pack the files up like normal in a zip with the SAME NAME as the name you gave to the zip file(s) on your upload
3. go to your upload thread, choose to edit it and upload the new zip file(s) just like you did the first time
4. save the thread again - you might like to add a note in the description page that you've changed some of the language

What happens in this case is that the upload system will replace your original zip file with the new one. You won't lose your download count and anyone who has downloaded the files already can come and get the new version if they want to.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.
I'm here on tumblr and my site, tflc
