Like HystericalParoxysm said, we really need more information. However, from what you've said so far it could be your computer is overheating; that would explain why it's happening when you play Sims 3, because it's quite a CPU-heavy game. When you turn the computer on again after one of these unexpected shutdowns, does it come up with a message like 'critical overheat' or similar? It could be overheating for a number of different reasons, but the most likely if it's an old computer is that there's a lot of dust trapped inside. You'll need to turn off your computer, completely unplug it and take it to a well-ventilated place because trust me, there will be a hell of a lot of dust if you've never cleaned it out before. Get a can of compressed air from a hardware store and use it to blow out all the dust, then close up the case and plug everything in again.

No, it doesen't come up with any message and it's a brand new $2000 dollar computer.

And I will post my system specs shortly.

Well, part of the proble may be lack of updates. Your GPU driver is nearly 2 years old. Go to Nvidia.com and download the new driver for your GPU. Also make sure to run Windows Updates to be sure it's up to date. Update net Frameworks if needed. Of couse run a good virus/spyware/malware scan, clean up and defrag your hard drive and finally, running a reputable registry cleaner such as CCleaner or Eusing's free registry cleaner may help as well.

I went to Nvidia.com and had a look and it all looks too complicated, but i'm going to have a try anyway.

Please note I have NO mods or custom content installed.

Edit: Nvidia.com makes you pay for the upgrades and I can't do any transactions online beacause I don't have a credit card so I can't upgrade my driver.

Err..no, driver updates are free.
This is a Desktop, correct?

Give me a sec, and I'll provide you a link.

win7_winvista_32bit_196.21

There's no computer model number in the DxDiag report, so if you have a laptop with specific media buttons, this driver might not work so well.
Quote:
Update in safe mode
===============
- Download the driver file
- boot to Safe mode (press F8 during boot-up),
- uninstall old driver via Control Panel
- reboot (You'll be defaulted to standard VGA drivers at low resolution)
- install new drivers
- reboot again
You still need to update the Service Pack, .net framework, DirectX, etc, from Microsoft - there's a link to Microsoft Update from the Start menu --> All Programs.

Similar threads with crashing issues that might be of interest to you and have some other suggestions that you haven't tried.

Wait I have another idea, should I patch my game up to date? I haven't yet beacause I have heard bad thinds about the patch about messing up your game.

I have Sims 3, World Adventures, High End Loft Stuff, so should I download the patch my current game version number is 3.0.38.004001

The 3.1 patch notes state that it only fixes the teleport out of bed (for the new HELS beds) and some collectibles issue with beetles. So if you can live with those, I'd wait for the next rumored "big patch" to be released - whenever that may be...

Also if you have digital versions, the freezing or auto-minimize issues with 3.1 when Alt+Tab or whenever another window pop-up is not worth the hassle, really.
Some players have reported that they can play with a patch combo of 1.10/2.5/3.0 though - so the decision is yours as YMMV.

I haven't been able to upgrade the driver online beacause I don't have a credit card but I have tried uninstalling stuff to make room, I have uninstalled The Sims Deluxe and the create a world tool and I have also done a whole computer virus scan and updating my game with the latest patches and that diden't work. I am going to try defragging my computer and if that doesen't work I am going to take it to the computer shop with the games to see if they can fix the problems.

I appreciate all of your help.

I understand you are upset, but please stop multiposting. If you have something to add, then just use the edit function.

Install this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_w...97.13_whql.html

Then restart your computer.

Does the computer still crash?

If so, exactly what power supply did you put in it (manufacturer and model)?

Also, is this a computer you built yourself or had a company like Dell, HP, etc build?

I have installed it and my Sims 3 still crashes. I am not sure of the power supply beacause I took my computer in the computer shop and they upgraded it, I am pretty sure my computer is an Asus.

There should be a sticker on the sides or at the back with the model number and manufacturer of the desktop computer. The power supply is a bit tricky as you might need to crack the case open, which I'm reluctant to ask as you might not know what should or shouldn't be touched and making things worse.

I'll check with Callistra if there's an alternative for you to provide us that information without you having to open the casing (but I doubt there is).

Was the power supply the only thing you upgraded? Why did it need to be upgraded in the first place, may I ask?
  1. Does the computer crash otherwise if you're not playing Sims 3? Do you experience crashing when playing Sims 2? Or doing other stuff?
  2. When it crashed, do you get the BSOD, do you see the BSOD error code? Post back here with that information.
  3. If you cannot see that BSOD error code, you need to do this to make sure the system is not rebooting itself after a crash: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windo...estartvista.htm
  4. Have you run Windows updates as instructed? You're behind on a Service Pack.
  5. You then need to run the updates again to get all the hotfixes after having installed the Service Pack.

Until we can determine the crash is not cause by new hardware, the hardware drivers and/or OS issues, there's no point trying to load up the game to test.

Though, having said that, which of those threads I linked to above have you read and have you tried the suggestions posted in them?

We cannot continue to help you if all you ever say is "my game crash" but you didn't tell us what you have done to try and fix it. Or if you had encountered errors when trying the suggested fixes? If you have tried them, state which suggestions you have tried and exactly what error you get as it didn't seem to work with your continuous crashing reports.

Plus, answer these:
Quote:
  1. Have you tried the Loading Crash FAQ to determine if there's a CC conflict or user files corruption? You don't have CC in Sims3Packs format either?
  2. What game(s) do you have and what patch version(s) are you running? There's a new 1.11.7/2.6.11/3.2.8 series, have you patched to this yet? Your post on the 24th mentioned you had patched but did not explicitly state which version at that time.
  3. For each of the games you have, Disc or Digital downloads?
  4. What changed from the Before all the crashing happened? Did you patch, add more CC, add a core mod, install a pack, etc? Upgraded/changed hardware, in your case?
  5. If just patched, what patch version did you have before you experienced frequent crashing with this new patch version?
  6. Are you running the game in windowed or fullscreen mode?
  7. Are you starting the game via Launcher or the .exe?
  8. Do you have EADM installed and has it ran an update recently? (current EADM is ver6.0.4.10)
  9. Are you playing on the default graphical settings or have tweaked it higher?

To ensure you have updated graphics drivers correctly, rerun the DxDiag report and post back with just this section, up to the driver version and date lines:

To ensure you have updated graphics drivers correctly, rerun the DxDiag report and post back with just this section, up to the driver version and date lines:

I am not sure if it was the only thing upgraded, beacause my parents took it in so i'm not sure, my power supply was upgraded for this reason, I took my computer in beacause my Sims 3 was crashing.

No, my computer only crashes when I play Sims 3.

No, I don't get any error code and I turn the computer back on after it crashes.

Oh, and the sticker on the side has a code:

Product Key: <snipped for security>

Underneath it there's a code that says: X13 - 29686

And two different barcodes.

If you need any more information please tell me.

OK, that looks good.

We'll proceed after I get answers to
- questions 4-5 for the OS-related questions and
- questions 1-9 for the game-related questions.

If you're unsure on how to do Windows Updates - see this link.

That's for windows XP, I am using windows vista and I found windows updates under my computer programs, I have updated it to windows service pack 2 using windows updates.

1.Have you tried the Loading Crash FAQ to determine if there's a CC conflict or user files corruption? You don't have CC in Sims3Packs format either?

I only have some store content that I got with my free Simpoints.

2.What game(s) do you have and what patch version(s) are you running? There's a new 1.11.7/2.6.11/3.2.8 series, have you patched to this yet? Your post on the 24th mentioned you had patched but did not explicitly state which version at that time.

My game is at version 3.1.7.004001

3.For each of the games you have, Disc or Digital downloads?

My games are on disks.

4.What changed from the Before all the crashing happened? Did you patch, add more CC, add a core mod, install a pack, etc? Upgraded/changed hardware, in your case?

My Sims 3 has always been crashing ever since I got it.

5.If just patched, what patch version did you have before you experienced frequent crashing with this new patch version?

It has always been crashing.

6.Are you running the game in windowed or fullscreen mode?

Full screen mode.

7.Are you starting the game via Launcher or the .exe?

Launcher.

8.Do you have EADM installed and has it ran an update recently? (current EADM is ver6.0.4.10)

Yes I have the EADM and I have installed a patch recently.

9.Are you playing on the default graphical settings or have tweaked it higher?

Default, I have tried lowering the setting and that dident work.

In order to better solve your problem, please go through the following as listed below:
  • Sims 3 - Uninstall
This Game_Help:TS3_Uninstallwiki link has the step-by-step instructions to guide you through uninstalling The Sims 3, and its packs (EP/SP).

If you're reinstalling because you're reverting to an older patch, or just do not want to use the Launcher/EADM to patch, read this FAQ Game_Help:TS3_Patchingwiki once through before patching and then follow the guide.
I believe you were already instructed not to double-post? Please heed staffs' instructions or you'll be racking up warning points.

The link I provided was just to start IE and where to find the link and the How-To for the screen on the Windows Updates.
But if you're able to locate from your Programs list - it is the same thing. So you're caught up on Windows Updates, all rebooted and Windows loads up fine - can surf, watch DVDs, open Word or whatever programs you usually use on this computer?

Then, let's proceed to the game...

5.If just patched, what patch version did you have before you experienced frequent crashing with this new patch version?

It has always been crashing.
Now this change the whole ball game, 25 posts later...
Let's start with bare necessities and establish a baseline.

I'd like you to uninstall everything to do with Sims 3 (every EA-related program except for Sims 2 stuffs, if you have that on this machine), clear up all the stuff as instructed in the FAQ, reinstall the base game only, unpatched! If you choose the Custom Installation type, you can choose not to install EADM at this point.

I want to try just The Sims 3, and nothing else.
Do not restore CC (Sims3Packs or .packages), do not restore save games, do not pass Go! Do not install Framework.

Load up the game and post back with the result...

On occasion you might be asked to do a long FAQ - please make sure you do all the steps and don't just skip over them. You'll often find that these long FAQs have all the details you need. If nothing in the above FAQs fixes your problem you may post again detailing exactly which you have done and which steps failed.

edit: in response to the patching to 3.2 post
And...? Does it work or still crash?
