Snow Problems
Hey, dear simmers!I hope it's okay that I'm using this thread to tell you about my weird-snow-problem. It's the same like alverdine's one.
I’m really, really hoping that somebody could help me. I’m sorry for my bad English =/ I hope, you’re able to figure out what I want to say.
I’ve been creating Sims 3 worlds with CAW since the first tool-version was released. Last autumn I’ve started my 17th CAW-project, a world designed for a Sims 3 story. It’s not finished right now, but I’ve started to export my unfinished worlds in game from time to time (two years ago) in order to detect errors/bugs and so on.
My world looks fine in game – in spring, summer and fall. But in winter occurs a weird snow-bug: in my world appear ugly black borders and stains nearly _everywhere_ and I’m not really able to fix the problem.
In the last 2 months I’ve tried different things to provoke and reproduce the bug (in order to find the problem and to fix it), but I wasn’t very successful at all.
What I’ve tried so far (note: I’ve tried every of the following steps with (and without) a completely new provided Sims 3 folder and with (and without) the CAW-framework; I’ve tried this also with (and without) Downloads (CC and/or Store), with flat and mountainous worlds, with water- and non-water-worlds, with and without distant terrain, with and without Super-CAW and so on… :
- I’ve removed all the terrain-paint (over and over again) and did it again (with different textures and so on…); I’ve used downloaded ones, textures created by my self and original EA-textures – but not matter in which combination I’ve tried… the failure persisted. I’ve figured out, that the problem occurs if I’m using more than 7 textures (regardless if I’m using the same texture again and again and again – or different ones). It doesn’t matter if I’m using just two or 12 textures per chunk; the issue occurs again and again and again… That’s really a problem, because I’m using a lot more textures generally (and this was never a problem at all!).
Because of this I’ve thought it might be a graphic-card-problem – and so I’ve tried to create a world on my laptop and not on my desktop-pc; but this (including all the mentioned steps) ended up the same.
I’ve started an entire new world (over and over again)…
I’ve reinstalled windows (this was necessary due to problems with my system) and so I’ve installed all games, patches and the tool again.
I’ve installed all games and patches up to Island Paradise/1.55 (because the problem occurs since ITF, I think) – this didn’t help.
I’ve taken a look at all textures I’ve used (and I’ve used some of them for ages without any problems!) and fixed the alpha-map if necessary. = no effect!
I’ve saved all the textures in DTX1 (1bit-alpha) .dds-files, I’ve saved all the textures in DTX5 (interpolated alpha) .dds-files… I’ve saved them as .tga-files…
I’ve examined the wire frame – nothing special…
I’ve cleaned the global layer a bunch of times…
I’ve also tried to use a EA-world as base (just to test out, if the bug occurs) – it’s all the same. No matter if I’m the one who created the world or the EA-team.
I’ve changed my graphic card settings - no effect.
I’ve created five worlds with my desktop PC and never had this problem at all.
If anybody of you has any idea, please let me know I really don’t know what to do anymore I look forward hearing from you! Thanks a lot in advance!
Best regards,
windprinzessin
