well I do not mind cheating or using cheats . But what about hack that help you (and are kind of cheating?) . I usually go for cooking and sell the food . Paladin has a hack that make the visitor hungry...so I'm sure they are gonna eat and buy my food lol

I use maxmotives all the time for my employees. I also get as few employees (with the lowest salary requirements!) as possible. Also I find that even in a retail-type business, it benefits to have areas where customers can just sit and socialize, even if that means losing time that they're buying.

Also, those with restaurants? Does anyone make home restaurants? Is it even possible?

I never use cheats. I use one or a combination of dates, outings, snapdragons and energizers. Sims can sleep in tents (BV) on their community lot, which works great for venues if they're running it by themselves, or for taking turns sleeping in any kind of business if family members are helping out.

The most profitable business I ever ran was a car dealership. If you want to make a lot of money, sell a few really expensive things as opposed to a lot of less expensive things. I have Business Runs You, but hardly ever use it. I do use the smarter cashier and the no business decay hacks, though.

An OFB idea/strategy I want to share:

Want your sims to make a lot of money? I mean a really huge amount of money, even when you are not sitting in front of the computer but are busy elsewhere at home?

You will need:
1) A ticket machine business
2) A Servo with a Gold Badge in sales
3) Lots of Snapdragon bouquets
4) The Weathernaut seasons award (if you have seasons)
5) A hack which stops the "you invited me to sleep but didn't give me a bed" tantrum by visitors whose energy is very low.

Steps:

- First, you have to get your ticket machine business to level 10, so you have a lot of customer loyalty stars. Set the price to anything from cheap to normal.

- Plop up a lot of luxury/ high demand items like a couple of hot tubs, Card tables and lots of treadmills. Strategically place as many snapdragon bouquets you can around all objects, but carefully avoiding to cause routing issues.

- Set the ticket price to something really high like 8500-9000 simoleans, but not much higher than that.

- Spam the customers with dazzle socials (2 should do it) till they buy the ticket.

- As soon as you get around 7-8 customers, take your servo to a "no visitors allowed" zone and power him down. Don't forget to set the weather naut reward object to "clear skies"

-Set the game to triple speed. Do whatever chores you have around the house or take a short nap and watch your favorite TV show.

When you check back after an hour or so, you won't believe the amount of money you'll have earned.

- Repeat the procedure with new customers and take another half/ one hour break.

The money earned this way will be much more than if you had typed motherlode multiple times till your fingers ached. Also, you will get the satisfaction that you've not cheated for this. (ahem..I mean not in the conventional sense anyway )

Doesn't energy deplete for servos when they do dazzles? I never checked, so I'm asking.

Has anyone had a successful restaurant? I had Malcolm Langraab buy one a long time and it never really made any money so I just ended up selling it.

Im thinking of making another sim buy one since she's a celebrity chef and her bakery is already a level ten but I don't want her to fail :'( lol

My sister had her sim buy a tiny grocery store and kept adding stores to it until it grew to a grocery store/pet store/food store/nightclub/karaoke lounge/restaurant/electronics store/boutique/hotel that did really well. Her trick was spawning a bunch of servos and making them do all the work in order to not have to pay any employees.

For restaurant I believe it is possible , though from personal experience it end up with me going on the tools set (fight it for 3h) and deleted the lot .

There is a code I believe you can use , as in build your restaurant in a house-lot like , then once it is done change it to community lot . But for me it become a major bug . My sims end up stuck in there and even after deleting them..I couldn't leave the lot (even though there were no sims in the lot) .

More infos here : http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Restaurant

And when it was working , it was kinda of dissapointing . You only had one kind of stove for restaurant , one podium...the sims babbled a lot and just seemed like a pain when it is supposed to be fun .
I opted for making my own home made cooking , and with Paladin hack (for OFB) just sell them on my own lot . And I add a couple of chairs and tables and everyone is happy .

I got a restaurant (the One-Twenty-Five Cafe downtown) to level 10 with 5 Sims (some already had gold sales badges) and a Servo that was the cook. It took me 8 RL hours, and for me was the hardest and most tedious type of business to run.

I've seen that Servos' power depletes much slower than regular sims when they're doing the dazzle interaction and also when they're working on the junk car. If you can get other Servos as customers too that would be awesome. They never leave the lot if their power goes down. They recharge themselves and rush back inside. It does seem rather hillarious that they pay you the astronomical amount of money to just stand near the mailbox.

Servos are really better and can endure more than regular human sims. Just the way people visualize robots to be when they say "working like a robot". Not like the sorry pile of slow moving scrap known as the simbot in TS3. Their needs deplete faster than regular sims and it is a pain to look after their unique needs.

I agree its very hard. I thought I could run it by herself at the beginning but it wasnt working out well lol. Luckily one of her friends has a high cooking skill so she hired her to be chef. I also hired someone with high body skill to be the server so hopefully things dont go too crazy!

For businesses, Plantsims can pwn Servos any day of the week Plantsims have no energy motive, so they can dazzle the day away and will never get tired. Love is covered by socialising with customers, water can be dealt with with a quick shower. The only iffy motive is sunshine if you're running a night business (I have found that a greenhouse roof allows for Plantsims to catch sunlight indoors during the day while still avoiding weather effects) which can be solved by having a couple of sunlamps around.

There is a reason my plantsims in my Build-A-City challenges have the highest level businesses.

Man do I agree with you on this. They can work endlessly as long as you have a good water source and some sunlamps around. Mine runs the local produce stand, he has two other employees, one is the cashier and the other the salesperson and both of them restock. This leaves him open to farm for the majority of the time but he will also fill in at any position.

The stand itself is an open air deck with an awning to give minor protection from the elements ,when it first opened it was just the stand on the lot and his produce garden was at home. As the business became successful he hired the employees and once they were trained he added in a large garden and orchard on site. The salesperson is also a manager so that during the winter he just calls in daily, this keeps the cycle of the garden on the lot from going dormant.

The business opens at 7am and closes at 7pm daily or from sunrise to sunset and it is very busy. He could literally be open 24/7 if it was only him but he does have a family at home and another garden as well. The business has grossed about 128k at this point and he only sales vegetables, fish, two styles of grill (one cheap, one expensive) and the kitchen juicer. His prices are for the most part average although he does sell the golden trout as ridiculously expensive (around $560 for one fish).

No way I could run this business if he wasn't a plantsim. The sheer volume of gardening alone would be impossible but he also does all the fishing as well. Took me awhile to get used to playing him and I don't really want anymore plantsims (his wife and kids are all normal) but now I really like him and look forward to his turn in the rotation.

It is possible to make a lot of money selling nothing but fairly inexpensive items but I needed the powers of the plantsim to do it.

I run a bookstore in my hood - my sim has a gold register badge and silver restocking badge and level 5 perks on wholesale prices. The bookshop opens 10 until 5 with an hour for lunch at 2pm. The working day is to turn up at the store, open up and do simple sales interactions/restocking activities. When a customer goes to the register my sim goes over and takes the money (the store is tiny - on a 1 by 1). Because he is fast at taking the money a customer can wait in line without getting fedup because when my sim gets there the transaction is really fast.

The main sales are books and postcards and deco junk - with one 200 simoleon stock item - a book display. This keeps sales figures reasonably high and it has a 40 simoleon profit margin.

At 5 pm my sim closes the store and then restocks - takes him until about 7pm, then he goes home.

How much daily?

I had a bookshop, but with two workers whose pay always ate up all the profit. My sim couldn't be a cashier and a restocker simultaneously, though, sims were buying too fast and got too impatient when standing in the line.

Depends on if I'm going for money or realism. Money is easy: buy a lot, plop down a jacuzzi, and have your Sim repeatedly do Sales / Basic until s/he has a gold badge in sales, Then, set the price to something ridiculously expensive ($1000+) and use Dazzle to bring `em in. Even if they only pay the once, you'll make a bundle in just a few hours. If your sim has high aspiration, you can use the re-energizer to keep them going for a while.

I've never tried something as difficult as a restaurant. My favorite lot at the moment is a grocery store run by the Green family. The adults work full time, but every other day and all weekend Mortimer and one of his kids will run the store. Because the prices at the grocery store are set at default, most Sims will buy them on their own accord. I only need the sales staff (one sim runs the register, the other tends to the floor) to target people who are looking at the furniture which is offered.

I'm running an experiment in my game at the moment. I had two Sims start a Greek house, the Order of the Llama -- it's supposed to be a civic organization, and the name is inspired by the Benevolent Order of Llamas from SimCity 3000 -- and once one of the Green children came, she decided to use the Order's savings to buy a lot downtown. She and her fellow Llamas run the store a few times a week, and during her reign as the owner they made quite a bit because of her wholesale discounts. Once her time as president of the Order was up, she transferred the lot to her successor. She graduated and took with her $60,000. Her successor, Richard Henry -- son of the town banker -- will leave with an even greater share of the loot. This is a Big Deal because I have the no 20K handout, so Llamas have a head start on everyone else. They can build a house right out of college when the rest are living in Flagg Trailer Park. As you can imagine, the Order is very exclusive -- they don't want too many people trying to claim fractions of the pot. 50% is better than 33%!

(The Order also has an alumni program, so they get $10,000 in donations once a week. That's only going to increase as time goes on..)

Actually, I've had my first Plantsim very recently, so I didn't mention them. But I've seen my Plantsim's Sunlight and Love motives were depleting rather fast when she was working alone on a Toymaking bench. She has 0 outgoing points too.

But with respect to my idea in post#55, Plantsims can surely be used too. But they'll have to have to have the ability to meditate. In fact, I'll try it with my Plantsim now.

My most successful business ever was with a Plantsim who worked as an Artist. She had an easel with a sunlamp over it and a shower at the back of the lot. A basic gallery (blank walls with her art on it) and a sales register and away you go.

The sim never went home - so she was effectively immortal and either painting pictures (under a sunlamp), Selling pictures and talking to customers(social/love) or showering (water).

It is a bit cheaty though ...

@babahara - my bookstore sim makes a profit of about 80-100 simoleons a day. It's not big money but he is doing what he loves.
