This is Diederik:

He is a medieval child, so he wears a dress.
Forget the totally-non-medieval mailbox and road and roadstripes and foodpath.

The problem: when I click on his image, at the left, and then click on himself, the only option is Adjust > Bed ownership (that's from a mod). There are no Maxis options at all. When I say to him he has to go somewhere, after about 2 tiles he resets himself. Well, it seems like he resets himself. He walks and then suddenly stand afer 2 tiles in the way shown in the picture.

When I tell his brother to talk to him, they talk like normal. But then he resets himself again, in the mid of their conversation. No red stripes of I-don't-like-you above their heads, they just stop talking immediately.

I deleted him (move_objects on), saved the lot, went to the hood and back to Diederik's home. Untill this time all Sims with strange things were back to normal then, but Diederik still resets himself.

What can I do to make him normal again? Back in early times dead among children was common, and I killed 5 of his 9 brothers and sisters of Diederik as toddler (wrong number when I rolled the die), but I don't want to kill Diederik. I want him to grow into an adult, but in this way he can't be the great-great-grandfather I want him to be.

(Edit: when I played his household this morning, everything was fine. But this afternoon he went, without a reason I know, into resetting...)

That might be a hack conflict. I have something similar and I think that's what it is. Trouble is, as I don't actually play kids and I'm lazy, I haven't bothered to work out which one it is. It only really bothers me, then, when they go into a error phase and they can't do anything autonomously either. Do you have behaviour mods in your game?

Polgannon Project Seriously, I'm still working on it.

I got lots of behaviour mods... maybe too much.
I removed the Adjust > Bed ownership-mod, but then I got no options when I click on Diederik. I aged him into a teen and got 'Do yoga' and two other Adjust-menu-mods.
It is strange that his brother, who is also a child and only one day younger than him, don't got the problems.

Edit: I removed everything I downloaded today (a hack so you can adopt teens and bunk beds), but I still got the problem At least he walks normal now, without resetting. I made him relax on his bad and he resetted himself. Maybe it is something with a bed-related mod.

There's no way out of it - you'll have to work the Game Help FAQ. You know, back up game, dump caches, test, remove all downloads, test, and so on.

Fortunately this is an easily-testable problem. It should go relatively quickly.

Just because it's only Diederik now doesn't mean it won't happen to somebody else later. It could be a complext interaction between a behavior mod, Diederik's personality points, and a hairstyle - there's no way to tell. Nip this in the bud.

All you can do is the best you can do.
(My most recent book is Sullivan, That Summer. In case you care.)

It wasn't a bed-related thing.

I'm gonna do the Game Help FAQ-things, what you said, thanks.

Edit: it must be something in my downloads folder. I moved it to my Desktop and started the game, and Diederik was fine.
I'm happy with this.

Sounds like it's time for the fifty-fifty treatment.

Did the fifty-fifty treatment.
The problem was Monique's computer/laptop, maybe it conflicted with another hack? I don't know. Since I never used Monique's computers (although it looks interesting), I deleted it.
Now Diederik can finally jump with the cord again.

Thanks .

Ah - thanks for that information. I don't have the computer but I do have her email hack. I wonder if that's what's causing the problem with my children sims. I might actually have to do something about that since I have that hack to make email actually have a point. Anyway, gives me a place to start looking.

Hmmm...I've got Monique's computer, have had it for years, use it all the time, etc. I've never had any problems with my kids.

(You know, if you read that sentence completely out of context, it's really weird. )

Anyway, like I said, no problems. I DO have an updated version of the computer, though, which I got...um, somewhere. Probably from MATY, since a cursory look tells me that it isn't here at MTS. I seem to recall that it was Chaavik who updated it, but don't quote my half-senile recollections... So maybe that's the difference?

Redmond Flats, my eleventy-th stab at a "Build A City" challenge. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with documenting it. But you can find rules and tracking spreadsheets and stuff there.
For stuff what I've made, there's my LJ. There be downloads there, some of which aren't/won't be here on MTS.

What ep is it updated to iCad? -if you know. I have a problem with my school bus arriving half a dozen times before it stops. Could be something else of course but it's very annoying. Guess I'll keep it until I get annoyed enough to drag out my entire download folder-yet again.

I know for certain that it was updated through Freetime to incorporate the FT-style of novel-writing. I got it back when Freetime was my newest EP, and I haven't subsequently updated to a newer-than that version of it. (If there is one.) It still works fine with no conflicts that I know of now that I've got all EPs/SPs.

Well, it might be 'conflict' as in conflicting with something else not just game code. God knows, I have enough hacks and so does Tycho by the sound of things. Hacks conflicting with other hacks is a bugger to track down.

Yes, they certainly can be! I just feel lucky that, with the amount I have, I haven't had any really serious problems, mostly just stuff fixed by renaming files. Or, when that failed I had to make a choice about which hack's features I wanted more, which is kind of like choosing your favorite child.

But anyway...I just thought that if Tycho didn't have the updated computer, maybe that was the cause the problem. I probably should have quoted him/her rather than you, though. I think I meant to, but clicked the wrong reply button.

I got 77,9 MB of hacks and mods, so there is a big change something might conflict with another

@iCad: Tycho is a male name, and so am I
No updated computer here. And since I don't use it, I don't think I want an update. Maybe you just got less hacks xD

Good to know you're a boy, Tycho. I kind of tend to assume that people on this forum are female because that seems to the be the majority. So, it's good to know when someone...isn't.

But yeah, I have a lot of hacks over here. More than 800 of 'em. It was kind of a nightmare when I got Apartment Life, updating everything to be compatible and praying that not-updated stuff that I won't play without (Like Community Time) would still work with the new game engine so that I didn't have have to choose between a cherished and an EP. Thankfully, I got everything happy again, with just a couple of sacrifices of stuff that I could live without.

Anyway, good to know that your conflicting thing is something that you can live without. I like/use that comp pretty much just for its banking functions. I know there are other methods of doing that stuff, but that comp's what I'm used to using.

Chaavik's updated versions of Monique's computers are here:
http://www.insimenator.org/index.php/topic,93501.0.html

I've got them, but haven't tested them out yet, so I can't offer any information on whether or not these might have issues.

I've just remembered that I encountered an issue with children and Monique's computer (even the fully updated one Darby linked to) a few months ago -- everything would be fine except for when I'd have them selected and mouse over the child, then I'd get errors pop up (as I play with testing cheats permanently on). For me, the solution turned out to be very easy delete MQ_Computer_Global_Sims_Controller.package.

Thanks so much for those links Darby and Katya. I think my version was updated to FT like yours was iCad. I have had sim children seemingly stand and jump around slightly as well. I will update and remove that file.
