Enabling natural hair colours for elder, or grey hair for adults?
I'm kind of tired of all of my elder sims walking around with grey hair. I'm sure hair dye exists, right? In short, I want to know if there's a way to unlock the vanilla hairs in the natural colours (red/blonde/brown/black) for the elder age and unlock the grey for adults?
Would I go about it the same way as unlocking/recatagorizing other maxis content, ie, editing the propertyset file?

I think most people whose elders dye their hair just get custom hair that's enabled for elders. You can also find base colors for adults that have some gray in them, though the textures never look right to me.
Back up your game and experiment with the propertyset file. And then you'll know.

I don't think relocking is possible (as far as I know), but a long time ago I created this: New hair: Colored hair for female elders (Base Game) http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=524148
Maybe that can satisfy your needs?
But read the thread (and comments) carefully. I know there was a problem with some of the hairs (not all), but I can't remember which ones by heart.

For recoloring, the safest way is to make a separate grey recolor enabled for adults and elders, in the custom bin.
For natural colors, let all the ages have the same color.
If you want to edit hairs, you have to do some SimPE editing.
Disable the elder age (set age and/or gender to 0x00000000), and set the adult age to 0x00000018 (8=adult, 10=elder, 18=both. 58 is YA in addition). Just be warned that this can possibly mess up future recolors, so be sure to save a copy of the original files if you plan on recoloring.
Oh, and also have a backup of the files, just in case you mess things up while editing.

It might also mess up default replacements. That's why I made the recolors I uploaded.

If I do that to my custom hairs that will enable my elders to keep their hair colour? What about when I want them to turn grey though? Can I keep some with colour and some with grey? The whole 'and elders get grey' I see on downloads drives me a bit crazy, why is that considered a feature?

http://www.theninthwavesims.com/201...-haircolor.html Has an object mod that gives one the option of Dye Hair it worked for me I got it by looking at http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=524148, which has a link to it, so thanks to leintebollemeis for the info.

It would only die hair the same as what you have in game though, right? Most custom hair that shows up for elders in a colour tends to be black and brown-or is so in my game. A hair may appear to be red or blond but place it on a sim and it is brown or black. I have many custom hairs that do that.

I have only used it once for one Sim so far, but I can tell you that it doesn't seem to work for all of the hair styles that I have, but it does work properly for some.

It will dye the hair like a mirror but you can't give elders colored hair if you don't have colored hair for elders downloaded in your game.
Unless I m terribly mistaking, but that's what I understood from the text on TNW's blog.

That's what I figured, it's no different to a mirror and the game already comes with those.

okay, I'm going to attempt to edit the propertysets for some hairs and enable them for the elder age (and possible enable a grey to the adult age) and see if it works. If it doesn't, I suppose the safest/easiest way is simply having custom hair enabled as the custom/coloured hair.
I'll update soon!
EDIT: didn't seem to work.
it took a minute extra to load up bodyshop, as well as the in-game mirror, so i think it was enabled? however, none of it appeared selectable. the only hair colour options for elders was still just grey and the custom bin.

If you want colors for elders and a grey option, the safest is to have all ages in the original color, plus a grey in the custom bin (you can disable the other ages if you don't want it to show for all). You'll have to change it with a mirror, but this way you have an option.
