This user has the following games installed:

Sims 3
Default Games crashes randomly to black screen have to reboot
Hi.
I have recently bought the sims 3 base game for my laptop, and it has been experiencing some major problems, whenever im playing my game at random times, it's never at the same time, my game will freeze, then turn to a black screen, after that I can move the curser for a few seconds then that will freeze too causing me to have to reboot my laptop. it's really frustrating as I love this game I have the right specs to play this game. any ideas what is causing this?

Could you post your specs, please? Generally if the whole computer crashes, rather than just the game itself, that indicates a hardware problem.

The laptop is brand new, I only bought it last week, and I only have the sims on it!

It's a i5 processor, 6gb ram, 1tb hard drive, and NVIDIA 850M, with 2gb dedicated graphics.

You say it's brand new. Have you updated all of your drivers, particularly your graphics drivers?

Yes, I checked that earlier on, and it was already up to date.
