This town looks amazing! I can't wait to see it finished. However it wont work well on my game and probably will be the same for other people as the houses are so close together, It would take an hour to walk down the street as my game tries to render every house I pass.

Anyway good luck on finishing it! :D

Very nice idea and realisation.
Could you tell me how you made this background? Which objects did you use for your background. It looks similar to the Sunset Valley background but seems not to be identically.

Tried my hand at a house with a crow-stepped roof (Link for more info), didn't turn out so great.

Unfortunately, it looks terrible from a distance, so there'll only be a few of these types of roofs in the city.

That looks awesome! I think the main problem is that the roof is too low. Just make it higher/steeper.

That really looks great!!! You would just have to make the roof steeper and it will look fantastic.

Fixed up the roof for the first one and built a second house using the same type of roof. The main problem is that those people who developed the Castle Pack decided to cut corners and as a result, they neglected to include simplified models.

As a result, you get:

House closeup. Looks fine here!
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f...IssuesClose.jpg

House farther away (note that the model for the pillar they cloned to make the walls shows up).
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f...FartherAway.jpg

And bird's eye (pillars disappear completely!).
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f...esBirds-eye.jpg

I'm contemplating getting rid of these types of roofs for this reason. Although they aren't ugly from above, it doesn't seem worth the effort to have these types of houses if they look like every other house from a distance. Any opinions?

- hmm i used the castle set several times, but i don't have that problem if i zoom out, or more far away...
- did you use some cheats to build this ? that may explain why things disappear when we zoom out.. sometimes i have this on my lots, so i avoid the constrainfloorelevation cheat

This looks amazing. Its a great idea and i love the wall. I can't wait. You are probaly going to do this but I would add a few bigger homes for more wealthy people. But I think it should be mostly smaller homes.

I just used the constrainfloorelevation cheat.

A note: objects will not simplify on the lot that you are editing or have just edited. If you select another lot to edit, objects will simplify on the previous lot.

Finished up the church. I was going for a smallish chapel, but it got out of hand

Anyways, it's more of a Romanesque church (and a fairly large one at that!). Gothic architecture is too difficult as we don't have yet the large windows needed. I still need to build some houses around the church, fix up the roof, finish the interior and make it more run down.

Short backstory (May change )

The current Church of St. Simian was built in the early 12th century in anticipation of the arrival of a prized relic, the Holy [fill in the blank] that had been acquired in Jerusalem. That being said, said relic ended up at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea.

Since then, the massive structure has lain partially empty, too large and unwieldy to accomodate the city's population. Its size was intended to hold the multitude of pilgrims that never came, and several city districts had been torn down to accomodate the building. The city council has been considering tearing down the church so that a new structure can be built in its place, but without the money to do so, the church still stands to this day. The north-eastern belfry collapsed in a storm a few decades ago and hasn't been rebuilt.

Well, since it is Medieval, it should be Holy Christ/Holy Savior/Holy Messiah/Holy Jesus

And I think you should make a Gothic style church. Or Romanesque.

Holy Piece of the Cross would be the best bet. There were WAY more of those floating around than could have actually made up the thing... lol. If you wanted to keep the relic (instead of lost at sea) just take a treasure box and build some sort of unreachable glass room for it. Then put something else in there, and then you could say the relic was stolen? lol. Sorry. You got me thinking.

Someone here made a Gothic church, you might see if you can find it and make a similar one.

**edit, I just looked and YOU made it!! lol
You should use it or make a smaller one. The buttresses are great!

Worked on the city a bit more.

Pics!

City Overview

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f...tyOverview5.jpg

I'm thinking of having the Upper Town walled in, while the Lower Town sits outside the city.

Also, do you guys have any good sources for Renaissance/ Medieval domestic architecture? Right now I'm drawing from the cities of Sarlat, Colmar and some random German cities, but I'm starting to run out of unique design ideas! Should I be leaning more towards stone houses or half-timbered ones?

Here's a rough list of other buildings we need to finish within the city.

Careers
- Hospital- Apothecary
- Business/ Journalism- Merchant Guild House/ Market Hall
- Military- Barracks (Castle Barracks completed)
- Law Enforcement- Guardhouse
- Criminal- Thieves Guild/ Camp
- Music- Theatre
- School?

Other
- Giacomo's Observatory/ Workshop
- Tavern(s)
- Markets
- Baths
