Nitromon is being modest.

You actually need to have your Mods folder in your game folder. What you have is your Mods folder in your computer's Downloads section and a shortcut pointing to it. That won't work.

In the Mods/Packages subfolder, there should be only package files. No 7zs, no bitmaps, and I don't know what that gamedata folder is or why it's there. You also have some items that are not package files and have modification dates of 2000 and 2003. I don't know what those are either, possibly TS1 mods, but they can't be for TS3. The game isn't quite that old.

Hi i've just installed the sims 3 after not having it for a couple of years and the resource configuration file in the mods folder doesn't seem to be working. i haven't put any packages in it besides the ones that come with the download and my base game version is 1.69. yet whenever i start the game with the config file it stays on a black screen? is the config file i downloaded out dated?

It would be better if you started your own help thread rather than adding to an existing one as the problems you are having are not the same. It gets very confusing having two or more conversations within the same thread.

The answer is, it depends on where you got your Resource.cfg file from. There are some outdated ones out there, but those tend to be older than 2011 or so. This is the source most of us use:
http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?tit...Setup_and_Files

And of course things need to be in the right place as illustrated there.

One issue players are having with 1.69 (among many) is that their TS3 game folder in Documents goes "bad." If replacing Resource.cfg doesn't help, try pulling your entire game folder out of Documents to the Desktop for safekeeping, thus forcing the game to create a new one on the next attempted launch. If you can get a game started up and saved on the clean game folder, then try rebuilding the Mods framework on it to see if the two test mods will work.

I don't think the gamedata folder should be in Mods folder. What is it.? Also the censor files are like 15 years old. Maybe that's the problem. Have you tried upgrading them to your patch level.? Take the 7Z file and BMP file off there. You have no need for them. You should not put picture files in Mods folder anyway.
