What happens if I don't install the Microsoft.net framework 2.0? I'm wondering because the link doesn't seem to be working.

I think the mention of downloading .NET 2.0 is from before Microsoft started bundling .NET with Windows. If you have Vista, Win 7, or Win 8, you should have some version of .NET. I have had no problems using Clean Installer with the version of .NET included with 32-bit Vista, but I don't know if it being 32-bit makes a difference. I am not personally familiar with 7 or 8, but flipping back through the thread shows a post by Mootilda (#507, direct-linking to posts seems to be wonky), saying that, as far as she knew, .NET 4.0 is backwards compatible with .NET 2.0.

Anyway, what I would suggest is just trying to run it. If you have a version of .NET that is backward compatible with 2.0, it should work OK. If you have problems, you can try downloading 2.0 here

There is a commemorative thread here.
Players should go there to post their condolences.

This would help alot of us that are wondering if we should do a backward leap to .Net 2.0 or if we can try it without it first. I think it would be a good idea to make this a sticky at the top of the post.
