Food animations question... #1 |

Ok guys, so I have a quick question. I created a new meal which can be seen here: http://modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=122758 As you may know, once the mesh is replace, out goes the animations that make the food disappear from the plate as the sim is eating it. Someone in the thread mentioned how this can be fixed, but I'm at a loss as to where to start first. I know a little bit about animations being that I played around with it when the tools were released (and although a bit different, I did do a lot of animation work with TS1). My question is, where do I extract the animation file because it's not working with in the TXT area in SimPE located in the file itself. I'm soo confused, any ideas at all would help. I know it's not as difficult as I'm making it! |

I dont know of a fix but when you make a new mesh for certain meals their is a bone structure that you can usualy see and when that bone structure is deleted while making the mesh as you said "out goes the animation" most of the bone structures are based on the actual food instead of the plate or bowl where it should be so delete the mesh .. delete the animation .. hopefully someone can answer this as i have been trying to correct the issue for a while. |

Hm the bone structure, are those millions of dots that you see around a mesh when you import it into Milkshape? Because I was wondering what all those were. The weird thing is that I never noticed if those things were assigned to any actual joints on the mesh. I know that if YOU havent figured it out yet -- and I have some of Exem's foods and they arent animated -- then it's still being worked on. It's soo fustrating, but I want to figure it out! |

Oh also it was suggested to me that I look at the mini tutorial on making cars animated and that may help with the food issue. But I couldnt figure the whole thing with the Mesh tool and the proper GMDC extraction because SimPE would not allow me to do it. I wasnt able to extract the entire GMDC file because there are so many mesh files I suppose in the object itself. Even when I tried to extract just a single mesh GMDC file nothing with even remote animations worked (I tried to use the one called foodeat.... This was from the original Pork Chop meal). |

Yes thats exactly what they are .. and if you notice you cannot delete the mesh without the bone disapearing .. here is a pic of the food content without the bowl but with the food and bone but you cannot remove the content without losing the animation .. now if i can figure out how to remove the mesh without hurting the bone? then we are in business .. so to speak. Edit ~ if you have that link for the tut can you show me and i will take a look and see what i can figure out.. Thanks

sims2germany ~ the mesh file that needs to be worked on is not in the plate itself but rather in the food mesh .. so when exporting you would not export the plate but just the food mesh itself .. thats where you will find the problem |

Yah the problem with that food file is that once you delete the Maxis food, out goes those verticies that you need to retain the animations. I tried duplicating them to preserve it -- and it didnt work at all. You are right I noticed right away that there were no joint assignments which makes it even more a headache. There's got to be some way to fix this, lol too bad I'm not savvy enough to create a program to solve the problem! |

Its been a long time since I looked at any sort of food object, so I'm not exactly sure what you mean is happening. From what I can gather, you are saying that the animations don't work with you food (the sim will not pick up the food), and that the bones/joints have been lost once you had replaced the original mesh with your new one? If so can you upload the original food object and your version so I can have a look. Not sure I'll be able to help but I will try. Also what process are you using to replace the mesh? The mesh tool (via smd files) or Wes's plug-ins or someother way? |

Miche! I'm so glad you checked out this thread. What's happening is this. The food is fine, it appears in game and everything, sims cook it etc, eat it. But as they eat, it doesnt disappear from them plate because somewhere in the remeshing process the animations get lost. There is a GMDC file called foodeat... I forgot the entire name of that particular one but it's in the GMDC section of the object. There are however a number of verticies placed around this mesh that are probably linked to the animations as the sims eat the food. Once you delete the original maxis food from the mesh to replace with your own mesh, there is no way to preserve these little dots, they disappear no matter what you do. That in turns screws up your new foods animation. Both the foods I've made are based off the the pork chop meal. |

Okay I'm going to have a look and see if I can work out what is happening. As I don't have the sims installed on this computer can you post the original clone of the pork chop meal. Also you didn't say what method you were using to import your meshes (I gather that you are using milkshape, but not sure if you are using the mesh tool or wes's plug-ins.) |

At this point I was using neither, I was using the import/export of the OBJ file with SimPE. In the past I've used the mesh tool to only have the same result. I have yet to try to edit the file via Wes's plug-in. I think I may have been doing something wrong obviously, lol. :insane: :smash: |

I didn't have time to look at this last weekend (as I thought I would have) so I will try to look at it this week or if not then this weekend. The obj import/export will not work as obj files have no support for any types of bones. I'm not sure if SimPe's milkshape files import/export supports bones. If not then you are either going to have to use smd files with the mesh tool or wes's plugins (it should be possible to use the mesh tool to import obj files in and then assign them to the bones but this support was never really finished and isn't very user friendly so its easier to use smd files. ) Anyway I'll look at this as soon as I get the time, but you do need to use a different method to OBJ files. |

Simpe's ASCII import/export does support bones. |
