For a while now I've been having this problem in some houses. I first build a floor on the ground level and then when I go to build the next floor I notice there are hardly any floor tiles (the white outlines) that will accept a floortile and often the ones that are there are higher than they should be. When I do place a floortile, they tend to create more tiles around them so I can fill most of the floor up like that, but then I can't place a single object on them. Also the automatic flat tile-roof maker only places tiles on the white outlines available and leaves big gaps. As far as I know, I haven't used any cheats and I'm pretty sure I don't have any hacks, also it happens in different lots and in different expansions. I've included a picture that shows how there's no tiles in places and that some are too high up. |

Hm. I sometimes have a similar problem -- white outlines aren't showing up -- *but* I've never seen those elevated floortiles before. (except with the constrainfloorelevation false cheat active, but I'm sure if you'd be using that you'd be aware of it). You could try to put a box of walls -- with the "box-shaped wall" tool, not the normal one -- on the downstairs floor and see if that helps, that's what I'm doing when my floortiles don't behave. Or have you tried leveling the top floor with the terrain leveling tool? Afraid this is not much of a help, but it's all I can think of. |

That picture shows that the floor tiles aren't even with the top of the walls. That sometimes happens when you put a house on a foundation. But as I camn see, this house isn't on a foundation. Also, if the ground isn't even, or if you've used the constrainfloor cheat, somtimes this happens, and I'm not sure why. There's no way that I can think of that can solve this problem. But maybe someone does know how to fix it. Also, it looks as if the top part of that wallpaper is going a bit higher than the wall does, but maybe you're just making the walls invisible. I'm not sure this helps much, because this problem I've only encountered about once or twice. :sorry: Really I'm just trying to point someone in the right direction in finding the answer to this problem. :salute: |

monaghan, are you using any cheats? Check your userstartup.cheat file- what's in there? |

I'm not sure what you mean by that userstartup.cheat file. :/ But I know I don't have any hacks or permanent cheats. The only ones I ever use are movebjects and the boolprop testingcheatsenabled one but I only ever use that to make a sim pregnant with another sim, nothing else, and I'm always careful to turn it off again. I'm not sure right now if it's just on houses without foundations, but I'm almost sure it is, it's been happening to me for months now so I don't remember the specifics of every house it happens in. I do remember that there were two recent houses that had it, both no foundations and the first was build on a lot that was naturally flat, the other was build on one that I first had to flatten out so I guess it can't have to do with that either. It's also been happening from before I installed the latest expansion pack (so with Nightlife and uni installed) and now after it as well. Oh, and by the by.. this house is already a few months old, but I placed a bed in it once (a single one with the weird flower shape as a headboard) and I selected it to tell my sim to go to sleep in it, but by the time she got there and climbed in the bed had become invisible, and when she woke up after it I couldn't see or select the bed anymore but I also couldn't place any objects on the place of the bed either. It was just a one time thing, but I thought I'd mention it since it happened on this lot. My sims have now moved out of it so I can't really check anymore if it'd happen again. Oh, and just remembering now, placing pilars to create more floortiles also doesn't seem to help. :/ |

I have this 'problem' with basically every house I make with a foundation. It seems that if you remove the foundation to create a basement, the game calculates the position of the floors above based on the ground leve, instead of the foundation. |

Please don't PM me with questions. Post them in the appropriate thread. |

Did you enter in the cheat to change the roof pitch before adding flooring? That's caused a similar issue in a few of my houses. |

I think this may actually be a Maxis bug, as I have very similar problems when building. It took me an -hour- a couple days ago to create a foundation, add perimeter first floor walls, and second floor walls on top of that. The cursor bounces around wildly with seemingly no impact made by the way I'm moving my mouse, and as pictured, like in front of that green room, the ghostly floor tiles that denote you can place things on the second floor in that area don't show up in certain spots. I was having to place temporary walls on the first floor to give myself those ghost tiles to place my second floor - and then some of those temporary walls started being build 4 clicks up from the foundation, hanging in midair. No build cheats in use (I'd used constrainfloorelevation earlier on that lot, but had turned it off), no roof on the house, no hacks that should have any impact whatsoever. I build so rarely, I don't know when this problem started, but I know I didn't have it before I installed OfB, and now I do, so I don't know if it's related or not. Essentially, my build mode appears to be busted, making doing anything, even building the simplest of houses without build cheats, a frustrating and near-pointless endeavor, trying to figure out in which random direction I can move my mouse to get the result I want. Seeing as it appears I'm not the only one having this problem (or at least one that appears closely related), I may play with the game a little later, see if I can reproduce the problem and find out what's causing it. |
