I don't know if this has been adressed yet, and the searches I did didn't give me any real info to work with. Every time I try to create a new neighborhood.. (after the successful one I made) they don't appear the next time I log in, yet when I checked my my neighborhood folder, I have 8 neighborhoods, but only the original neighborhoods and one custom show, and nothing else. I've already done extensive searches on your site and some topics come close but none really seem to nail this problem. Help?

I hope someone answers, because I've been having the same problem, too. It only happened once I had NL installed -- it never happened before that. Sigh.

Many people have been reporting this problem, however it has never been addressed by Maxis nor has a solution been found for it. Some people claim that it has something to do with the My Documents folder attributes being set to Read Only that is causing the problem. Anyway the best thing one can do is simply backup the neighborhood at least every two weeks, that way in case something like that happens and the neighborhood becomes corrupt there is a solution to it.

then what's left, uninstalling and reinstalling to reset the neighborhood properties? Will it be a pain? yes, but i'd rather be able to access the hoods I made.

This is a different problem to the read- only problem, as the files are being written. It sounds like the neighbourhood files are corrupting for some reason. Try an experiment- cut and paste the contents of your Neighbourhood folder to somewhere safe. Then go to C:/ Program files/ EaGames/ The sims2/ TS Data/ Res/ user data/ Neighbourhoods. Copy all of the files in there to your Neighbourhoods folder in My Documents. Go into the game, andcCreate a new custom Neighbourhood. Does it work? Also, try it without custom content, and patch the game if you haven't already.

When TS2 deletes a neighborhood, it doesn't always delete the folders associated with it.
You could still have folders on your HD that actually aren't being used by TS2 at all - other than being placeholders for creating new neighborhoods.

If there are no 'Character', or 'Lot' folders, it is probably safe to delete the main, numbered folder for the neighborhood in question.

For the brand new spankin neighborhood I made, that doesn't show, the character folders there has data in it, so does lots, storytelling has the snapshot of the character I made and the thumbnail has data. It just doesn't show when I boot the game up again.

I had the problem quite frequently early this year when I've been playing the game over again. Basically the game has been giving me problems and I haven't been able to play the game without any problems. Best thing to do is to backup your neighborhood folder at least once every two weeks, I coudln't find a solution to the problem.

Did you click the arrow at the right side of the TS2 Main Menu ("Choose a Neighborhood to Play")? This will show the next bunch of neighborhoods that are available to you. If you can't see the "Create Custom Neighborhood" button on the right, then you haven't seen all your available neighborhoods.

The new neighborhood might also show up as a green & white grid. The neighborhood is actually there, it just doesn't have a picture (.png file) associated with it yet.

Hope one of these might help ...

actually, I did move past the main given neighborhoods, and all it gave me was the option to create a new neighboorhood. None of the ones I created show. and no grid map either, it simply doesn't show.

Try restoring the neighbourhoods. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest reinstalling.

Ok...

Did you check to make sure that all the numbers for the all the files that are underneath that neighborhood's folder are the same.

For example, if the neighborhood is N004, then ALL of the files inside the folders 'Characters', 'Lots', and 'Thumbnails' must start with N004. Also, the files for the neighborhood and the pic must start with the same number (N004_Neighborhood.package, and N004_Neighborhood.png, for example).

If even one of these numbers is incorrect, it could lead to problems.

(EDIT) NOTE - If you have Uni installed, you also have more files that require the correct number in the filename (eg,. 'N004_University001.package' and 'N004_University001.png').

I'm not sure if NL or OFB add more files or not, since I don't have them yet.

all have the noo4_user in front of it, I just have no idea why it's not showing. though if reinstalling is the only way, guess I should get cracking.
