 Downtown has disapeared!

Hi everyone! well my problem is odd: since yesterday, when I launch my game, the icon of downtown isn't in the start menu any more...  I didn't install new hacks for a few days, my game was working fine the day before so I don't know what happened! I've tried to check my downloads with clean installer, which is usually the way I get rid of the things that disturb my game. This time not so efficient! I have all EP installed. I try to play and I can't go downtown either. seems that the neighborhood doesn't exist anymore! Before I have to re install my game, I would like to know if somebody had the same pb or if there is a known solution... also I apologize for my english  thanks everyone! |

waow, checking my downloads to find something but takes some time huh! starting to feel like a deseprate housewife!  well... still doesn't work, does anyone have a clue please? |

Do you still have the option to create a new downtown? In the Neighbourhood folder for that neighbourhood, do you still have a N00x_downtown_00x file there? |

You might also want to try to cut/copy your downloads folder to your desktop. Start up the game and see if the downtown button is there again. If it is there, you probably have a corrupt object, placed in one of the lots there while playing the game. Later on you can move the files from the old downloads folder into the new created downloads folder and start it up if it is gone you sure have corrupt content in there. To find the bad content, move the files into the downloads folder in smaller groups, like 150 a time and start up the game when you have the problem again, than the corrupt data is in that last 150 files. smithycpl |

Hi again, and thanks for your answers  simsample :Yes I have the downtown file in the pleasantview folder. But when I play in a lot of OFB and try to call a cab to go downtown, there is no place to go and no view of the town... strange, strange smithycpl : I already tried to cut my Downloads folder, even before I post my question, because I thought it might be a hack that causes my pb.(I'm sorry I didn't say it in my first post). It did not fix the pb, so I think that could be a problem with some hacks I was actually using in some lot of downtown. so I still check with Clean Installer but there are no more conflicts... so I still don't know what to do...  thanks again guys |

ooooh it's getting worse, yesterday I got a message error from windows: it says (approximatively) that the files EA/MY DOCS/OFB is corrupted (or damaged?) and that I should do a CHKDSK this morning when I turned on my PC it starts a checkdisc and tells me that is going to get back the "orphan" (is it the same word for a file??) files and, then it name the 4000 files I have in my download folder... My all PC is affected by this thing!! Do you think I should simply remove the game? I'm beginnig to worry... edit: yes simsample I still have the option to create a new downtown , because the game says that no downtown destination is associate (now) to pleasantview!

Let the computer run the scandisc, then copy your Sims2 folder to a safe place. This should hopefully create a backup. Then, defragment your hard drive and click start> run. Type cmd into the run box, then type chkdsk /r (make sure you put in the space before the /r) into the black command window. An error message should now come up saying that the task cannot be done, and would you like to reschedule? Type y and hit enter, then restart the PC. Hopefully the computer will now perform a thorough checkdisk and repair any damaged sectors correctly. |

Hi again simsample I am going to try that as soon as my antivirus checking is done, which could take a while.  I'm experiencing some weird things now: I move my most recent downloaded files on my USB key and now my computer can't open it! I have a windows message error that says "unknown peripheric" this is strange because these files are clothes, furnitures and haircuts, not global hacks, (which I put in a separate files actually!) anyway i'm gonna do what you told me thanks again simsample, I hope that my english isn't to hard to understand.. |

Nope, your english is far better than my French! It sounds like your PC has lost the USB drivers too, I'm wondering if this is caused by the disc errors, or if they are both linked to a different underlying cause. You are doing the right thing with the virus scan, I hope it helps! |

no viruses found, I'm defragmenting my hard drive, then I will do the checkdisc thing and I'll let you know. I also had replaced my objects.package (following your thread, which is really clear and simple by the way) thanks for my english! this was the only langage I liked in school, I'm gonna pratice it this summer hopefully! |

bad news, problem still here, and now when i insert my OFB disks, my computer says the file is corrupted... I can't reinstall my games at the moment, because the disks are at my parent's home, I only brought OFB with me, so... don't know what I could do now... edit: well, here is a clue, my N001_Downtown001.package is only one kb! my back up disk is soooo old, is there a way I can find this neighborhood somewhere? Also i've tried to search down the threads and found one started by kansascityrose, ( http://www.modthesims2.com/showthre...ight=disapeared ) but I can't follow the link she put in her last post... |

well thanks simsample, but I'm not ready to give up yet... you see, my favorite sims live in downtown, I made them become best friends, have good jobs, some have babies etc, I had a story there and I build a lot of lots.. I still hope there is a way I can find out what hapened here. If I can't, I'm not even sure I want to make a all new story... well we'll see. thanks for your advice, I like your avatar by the way |
