Hi,

like I mentioned in the titel, my game takes forever to shut down/doesn't shut down properly.
After I end the game my PC doesn't react anymore.I can not even start Task Manager.

Does anybody experience the same problem?
Could my extensive download collection be the reason behind it?

Thanks for your help

Try deleting the groups.cache file, and also clean up your disc and defrag.

Thanks for your help!
I searched for similar problems/threads but couldn't find a solution.
I tried every advice in the thread "How do I get my PC to run the game faster?", it didn't help me. I even created a new User Account with the result that the game ran much slower than normal in built mode.
I think my PC is a bit wonky at the moment, yesterday I needed to download and re install MSVBVM60.DLL. It simply wasn't there anymore. I don't know how this came about.

Now I'll try and delete the groups.cache and see if this bring a change.

Take your downloads folder and put it on your desktop, and try running the game without it. If it works better, then it's one of your downloads causing it.

You can try playing the game in windowed mode if that dosn't work.. My game used to crash all the time randomly, and the only way to stop it was doing windowed mode. Might help you *shrugs*

I experience this same slow close. It is just the way it is if you have to do a save. Not saving on closeout makes it a bit faster--but who doesn't want to save?

When the close gets 'excessive' I open up task amanger (ctrl-alt-del) and find the sims exe and end task. I haven't lost a save yet doing this--but I expect it's possible.

Thanks purplebookworm2 and Mutantbunny!

purplebookworm2 - I fear you might be right and it is something in my download folder. I'll
definitely try your suggestion.

Mutantbunny - I used to do the same but it doesn't work anymore, as I said, now I can't even start Task Manager. Yesterday I waited one whole hour but I couldn't do a thing. My PC worked on something one could hear the noises, I needed to shut it down manually, not something I liked to do. But thanks for your suggestion.

Run thorough virus scans and do that defrag if you haven't already; also you could run a scandisc and a Windows checkdisc to search for errors.

Hi!
Just played the game again, and it shuts down ! Can't tell you how happy that makes me.
I ran it in "windowed" mode so it could be that that's the reason it worked or like simsample suggested (thank you!!) I had a virus, don't know where I got the little bugger, always run my virus scan twice a week.

Glad it's working! MutantBunny's suggestion to save before you exit is always a good idea- I've had savegames corrupt on exiting the sims when my computer decided it couldn't be bothered to save!
