I recently installed the Sims 2, Nightlife, and University (in that order) and started out making myself some Sims in BodyShop. It was working just fine this morning, but then this afternoon when I opened it up, none of the images were showing up. When I clicked "Build Sims" all the boxes where the Sims I had built (and the ones that came with the game) were just blank blue squares, and after looking around for a bit I discovered the same was true of everything else. Also, the left side of the screen where your Sims are supposed to show up is just black.

I've tried removing all the files from my "Downloads" folder to see if something I've downloaded recently was the cause, and did the same with the files in my "Projects" folder. I also tried deleting the cigen.package file and none of these things has fixed my problem.

Also try cutting and pasting the entire Sims2 folder from your Documents to the Desktop.
What graphics card do you have? It may be worth updating the drivers.

My graphics driver is an Intel... I just updated it yesterday. I also moved the Sims 2 folder to the desktop as you suggested. BodyShop is now displaying the skintones and eye colors (though none of the custom ones that I've downloaded), but the rest of the problems I've been having are still there.

Does your PC meet the game requirements? These kinds of graphical glitches are often associated with lower end computers. I'd suggest to now put the sims2 folder back in the game; try deleting the cigen and groups.cache files and perhaps deleting the thumbnails files.

I know I have more than enough hard drive space and memory; my graphics driver is an Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for mobile. I deleted both of those files and it didn't help... and I guess that means it's probably my graphics driver, right? -_-;

You could certainly update your drivers to see if it makes an improvement:
