I was playing my game, everything seemed fine. I closed the game. About 2 hours later I double clicked on the Family Fun Stuff icon and nothing happened. I re-started my computer and same thing nothing happened. I tried open for Business - and nothing. I then tried Body Shop and still nothing. I moved the download folder - still nothing. I moved Sims2 folder - still nothing. I re-installed Family Fun Stuff - still nothing. I am really confussed, everything worked fine yesterday.

This happened to me, too. All I get is the screen that says Family Fun Stuff and then nothing else happens. If I find out how to fix this, I'll let you know.

Have you used disk cleanup and disk defragmenter lately?

Have you recently made any change to your computer? (i.e., updating drivers, installing software)

Just some quick thoughts....

Could your game be running yet in memory? Push ctrl alt delete and under the process tab and see if the sims exe is still running. Sometime apps will shut off but the exe will still be running in memory which will not allow you to start up the program again. may be your problem.

I deleted my groups.cache and my cigen files and then my game started again. The strange thing is that I hadn't done anything at all to my computer, and I watched the game start in my process tab and each time I tried to start it, the sims.exe would disappear after a few moments. Weird, but it seems to be working fine now.

If it really won't work, the last thing you could do is to uninstall the whole thing... it happened to me a lot of time on my other computer (I have a new one). The thing is... when you uninstall the sims2, all your downloads will be deleted with the pictures and the movies you took while playing.

I discovered recently (when I switched to running in windowed mode) that if you have Winamp open, the game will not load. The process will end on it's own without any error messages.

Please do not PM me with Game or Site Help questions. Post them in the appropriate section after going through the FAQs.

Actually, I found out about removing the groups.cache through one of the LJ Sims 2 communities a while back. Removing just that works every time the game pops in and pops out. No idea what is causing that to happen though.

The trouble is that the groups.cache file can easily become corrupted- deleting it causes the game to regenerate the file.

Well, that's certainly interesting. I'm guessing it does that because of using boolprop too much?

Mine gets corrupted every so often, so I'm curious.

Nope, nothing to do with the testing cheats- it is more likely to be a write error on saving/ exiting. I noticed that whenever the file becomes corrupted on my daughter's computer it is always when she has saved on exit, and then shut the PC down quickly. I've never had problems with this on my PC and I play with the testing cheats permanently on.

Ah, I see. That makes sense.

I'll have to remember that as I have the same desire to shut down right after saving without giving the game proper time to finish closing (well, I used to...only because my old HP was terrible about wanting to shut down processes because of, uh, it's crappy processor).
