Okay well here's a stumper for you!

So recently i was creating a family in CAS and i was doing what i always do when i'm wanting the couple to have pretty children (using a template sim i made in body shop and tweaking it in a few places for the guy and the girl - so essentially the same sim, just a few minor differences) and i thought to myself "how come when i check to see what the kids look like they never come up with thier mom's pretty chin?"

So i tested it. I used just my base template for both the guy and the girl with no tweaks at all. the kids should be clones right? wrong!! The next generation's chin and cheeks were lower than their parents' were...

so then i thought, maybe its just my sim. So i tested it with the first 4 maxis face templates and sure enough, the kids all ended up with lower chins and cheeks than what the original template was. the nose and mouth doesn't move at all, just the chin and cheeks.

So, anyone know what is up with that?

Is it just at the 'child' age, or at the adult age as well?

its all ages. Comparing the adult faces was the only way i could really tell there was a difference.

Now that i think about it, i'm not sure when this started happening. Maybe its always been like this and i've just never noticed before.....?

thanks for trying to help simsample

Edit: it occured to me that you may not really be able to understand what i'm talking about so here are some pictures that may help to clarify what is going on.

This was done in the base game newely reinstalled. no expansions, no dowloads.
I created 2 sims using the first maxis face template (the heart shaped one and then I used the create a child option in CAS to give them a kid with the same genetics..

then i opened up the child sim in the editor and compared the face she was "born" with to the first maxis template face aaaaand voila!

I know that it is REALLY hard to tell cuz of the small size of the pictures, but the first one is her original face and the second one is the maxis face. If you look closely you can see that her cheeks and chin are lower in the first picture.. making her face longer.

I realize that this is not like a gigantic problem, and it doesn't make my game unplayable, but it really does irritate me, and its just confusing... has it just always been this way and no one ever noticed it before or what?

Wow, that's something I've never noticed before. Perhaps it is something to do with recessive qualities of the Maxis faces- I know that sometimes if I use a custom sim and then change the hair colour in CAS, the kids will sometimes show the original hair colour even though I changed it... a CAS glitch, perhaps? I wonder if in-game born Sims have the same problem?

not sure, thats an interesting question. I have noticed in the past that my in game born kids always end up having bigger chins than the parents (more noticable with the girls obviously) but i always attributed that to the idea that the girls inherited dad's chin.... but maybe not.

anyway i really appreciate you trying to help me out... thanks

PS: i also noticed that it stretches the texture around the eyes. eye makeup can look really wonky and smudged.

It seems the whole face is being altered. Another question I thought of is if this would still happen if you had face template replacements- or if it is due to the way the game handles the default templates.

that is interesting! maybe i'll try it.

By the way, would you be willing to test and see if it happens for you? I'm really curious about whether or not its just my game being weird...

thanks again

Edit: Ok well i downloaded some custom face replacements and it still happened. I'm not sure about in game born children tho... I'll try that next. I'm beginning to think that it really is some sort of maxis bug that no one has ever noticed before...
