I'm a long time user of Sims 2 and have all the EPs. I recently purchased OFB and after installing it would crash and would not let me open the game. So I uninstalled everything using the instructions found here and on the ea website, when re-installing the OFB logo still shows up in the install screen, which I find odd, so it appears I'm not really 'cleared' of my previous sims installations.

During the 4 disk installation of Sims 2 it never asks me to insert Disk 2 (which I've seen on many threads, but never get an acurate answer for). I have tried running the game with no EPs and it seems to work alright, I haven't gotten in depth with gameplay. As soon as I try to install University, or run the EA game patch it claims I have an error with packageinstaller.exe. I have gone through my registry and deleted the folder containing packageinstaller during the cleaning of sims from my computer and it doesn't seem to help. I was unable to find ANY of the folders in my registry that the uninstallation requests I delete [ie: {6E7DD182-9FC6-4651-0095-2E666CC6AF35}] I just want to reinstall my poor little simmys, it's been a while since I've been able to play and I'd like to be able to purchase/play PETS when it is released!

To delete from your registry you'll either need to be logged in as Administrator (boot into Safe Mode for Windows XP Home, or press CTRL+ALT+DEL *twice* on the Welcome Screen for Windows XP Professional), and/or take ownership of those registry keys you need to delete (right-click said key and choose "permissions").

If either/both of these don't work for you, it might just be that you're going to need a full-blown F&R.

Try checking the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>ELECTRONIC ARTS and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE> EA GAMES. You can also search the registry using Edit> Find. You need to make sure that all references to The Sims2 are removed from your hard drive- from the registry and from the Program files folder. Also try it without your savegames or custom content for the moment.

I will choose a path that's clear- I will choose free will
