The bindi is from India and formally the hindu people were wearing it. But everybody wears it now.
And it's not for the bride only! You can wear it everywhere you want
These are very pretty! I was looking for something like this earlier. My knowledge of Indian culture is quite lacking. I thought that the bindi was just the little dot or sometimes a gem and that the thing that hooks to the hair is called a mangkita or head locket. I found some pictures at http://dmi-india.com/showcase12A1.html that are pretty cool.
I'm so glad you made these! Thank you very much.
In India the Bindi is a colored dot (simple) or fancier applique usually glued to the forehead between the eyes, and traditionally was just worn by married women (originally vermillion colored cosmetics painted on), but now men wear them as well, single or married. It is not limited to just weddings. The jewelry that hangs from the hair onto the forehead is called a Tikka. These would qualify as tikka, and not bindi.
