do you have merola's multi painting installed? My friend noticed that removing this object corrected the problem. She has all packs... hope this helps I just think maybe the painting needs to be patched or something.

hi, eq. i basically have the same exact system that you do. my pc is about 2 months old. i have the same problem as you. the infinite loop!!!! i tried everything and spent countless hours reading/researching online to see if i could remedy this problem. everything i tried did not work. so, from what i've read and from what the dell service techs X3 told me this infinite loop has something to do with the nvidia. and other things i've read on here lead me to think that nvidia is the problem. so, i ordered an ati radeon card (512) to replace my nvidia (256). didn't really want to spend the money on it, but i am a die hard simmer, and i miss playing. i know this probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
will let you know if the new card fixes it.

My big issue is that my pc is still under warranty, so I can't replace my card. Hopefully the patch that will be coming out will remedy this so I can finally play. It has been like 4 months

Sorry to hear that removing the object didn't work... do you have nay other custome content? She only had the painting & removed it, now the game works perfectly & she has an ati radeon card... this is so weird that noone can figure it out! I even tried reinstalling my pc & not adding any downloads at all.. no luck! It happens with just the game installed! So weird.

Good luck with this, I have kind of given up until they release the patch. Hopefully it will work & we can all play soon!

Have updated your graphics card recently? You may also need 'older' drivers. There seems to be a problem with nvidia cards.
Hopefully someone else will come along with more knowledge on hardware/software issues.

The infinite loop problem is often caused by a driver error or conflict. I'd recommend to remove older drivers, then reinstall the new drivers:

Did you remove all of the old drivers before trying the latest drivers again though?

I'm having the same problems
I only installed this video card about a month ago so I think I have the updated drivers. I'm not too sure though.... ^^;
How would I go about checking my nvidia driver version?
Sorry, i'm not too bright with these sort of things. ;_; I tried opening my nvidia control panel but all the text is in japanese for some reason

Tnx simsampl had used driver cleaner after each trial of new driver without success....I seem to have stumbled across something that seems to be working for me. But I am unsure if I put what I did here if it could help someone else. Or is there somewhere else I should list it as I am happy to let others know what worked for me. But my game has now run for over ten hours with no crash. TNX again to all who responded to my message for your input and help
cheers

ok, installed the new ati/radeon game ran for hours. it "hicupped" a couple of times for about 10 seconds but didn't crash. so it appears my problem was with the nvidia card. ????don't understand why, though.
yes, please tell us how you fixed your problem.

equez58, I have the same exact card (7900GS) and had the same problem. From all the research I have gathered on this issue, there were two solutions for those of us with a "Series 7" Nvidia GeForce card.
1) More RAM - at least 2GB
or
2) An ATI Radeon card.

I have tried every driver I could for this card and nothing has worked. Anyone with a Series 6 Nvidia card seemed able to fix it with driver version 71.89 (an a few others worked, too).
Those drivers, however, can't be intalled to be used with our Series 7 card.

My problem was "fixed" by upping my RAM to 2GB, but...I continue to monitor RAM usage as I play (with the free program Free RAMXP pro) and every hour or so, I use it to free up more RAM because the game seems to eat it up. Something definitely isn't right with NVidia and Sims.

If you have found a driver that works for our card (7900GS), as you indicated in your post above, I would love to know which one it is.

My extra RAM fix is *not* really a fix, in my opinion. It just probably gives me a little extra time before the blue screen shows up again. Luckily, with my 2 GB, I have been able to play for many hours without a problem (when I had 1GB, I could only last 10 minutes), but the fact that you had 2 GB, too, and still had this problem....that lets me know that 2 GB isn't a true solution.

So, yes - if you have found something that might help, please share! It will save me from probably having to buy a new card when the next expansion pack comes out.

Hey everyone...I recently went through a complete over haul of my system...new motherboard, new memory, new power supply, and yes a new video card. Bought the Nvidia 7300GT card. Had this same exact problem and my husband tried EVERYTHING he could to fix the issue (he's in IT, so he knows what he is doing). Tried every patch he could find thinking it was just an XP and Nvidia issue. My game would even crash while paused...it was annoying after all the money I spent on upgrading. I bought a new ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB card today, and so far no crashes. It even handled the change from night to day/day to night much better with all my graphics settings set to high. I was really hoping the Nvidia card would work, but after all the message boards I've seen, ATI is the way to go.

apologies all have been on a run of night duties dont get chance to get to computer. As I said I dont know if this will help anyone and I have experienced the problem again after adding more downloads. So went back to reading again. But seem to have solved it to as game has now runn for 11 hours fingers crossed. I will post the things I did but please be careful as I would hate to cause anyone else a bigger problem. I read a lot and tried to follow as many instructions as possible but I am not by any means computer savy. And tnx melonie for info for If it all fails again I to will try swappin to another brand of card, let me know how that continues to go for you....
what I did is listed below in next post....cheers and good luck....this is a an infuriating problem

First did a disc clean up and defrag. Then down loaded and installed Riva tuner a9not sure if i am allowed to post links here, so goggle it it's easy to find). Opened it and look at tabs on top for power user. go down list and in nividisa/global. tick device and enable override. In monitor tick max limits for the following..../memory clock/ physical memory useage..../page file usage..../ video memory usage...close and restart system. After this my game ran for over a day till I shut it down.....
But as I said I then added more downloads to my game and it was crashing worse,.
So please be aware of this problem if you try this......
cheers to all I hope it helps....someone.

Sorry didnt say what I did next....from nividia web site downloaded a thing called ntune..it says it tunes up your card and your system to correct conficts and ensure everything runs well. I chose the custom tune (takes 3 hours) so again I defragged and disk cleaned and started ntune.....shutdown system and restarted after completing and started game....it has been runnin for 12 hours so far and is even minimised while I do this (previously un heard of for my game on this system). As I said pleased be careful as riva tuner changes regisry settings.....Like me you have to decide wether to try or not. All of these are a combination of solutions I read in many forums aver many hours...they are not my own.....I hope it helps someone...will keep you posted on any further developments.
cheers and good luck

Thanks for this information; the Rivatuner essentially changes the way your system manages the graphics memory, which is treating the symptoms but not tackling the cause! However, it could be a useful utility for those who have tried everything else.

In response to Jenflower's question regarding the RAM -- 2GB isn't a solution in and of itself. I have 2GB RAM and am having the same problem.

I am still having the problem after rolling back drivers, but I can't get a new card either b/c my computer's still under warranty & it would be just my luck that something would happen after I open the case. I too tried what my friend did with the picture, but no results... i think it was just because that was the only thing she had. Any other suggestions?
