My custom light doesnt work, plain and simple lol. Here is what I have done: Cloned the 'Mr Lampy McFourlegs' lamp. Straight away, imported it into the game, and it imediately lost it's light, even without me making any changes whatsoever. I tried looking at numenors thread about working with lights, but I couldnt make head nor tail of any of it, guess I am just thick So, I have gone ahead and made the changes I wanted to the lamp, which are as follows: Edited and replaced the mesh. Updated the textures. I have attached the file to this post, please please can someone have a look at it and tell me what is going on, or not as the case maybe. Note to self: Check the meter to see if I still have electric |

After a first quick look, i would say first of register a new GUID before testing, it will otherwise override the maxis objects. I also noticed that both GMDC's have different names. But i will clone myself a Mr Lampy McFourlegs lamp, and take a look how it works in my game, maybe this lamp doesn't like to be cloned yet. ![]() EDIT: At mine the clone also lost it's light just as on yours without altering anything. Until now i never seen this before myself on any lamp i cloned. I'm not sure this can be solved, but i hope Numenor or someone else can help you out to at least get the light radiance in this object. |

Sorry, I did a re-clone and scrapped my original project, and forgot to register the GUID. Also, it doesnt like to be cloned, I cloned a different object and imported it straight back in, and it worked fine, keeping it's light. So I guess I will have to just use a different light to start with Now the only problem is, is the light I have picked doesnt seem to have a texture, or uses a shared one, and I havent got as far as figuring out how to use them yet

I would also suggest trying to use another lamp and just make the recolors separate for it. Of course you will loose the warm glow from this lamp, but i'm curious if this is maybe a bug in SimPE or simply something that cannot be cloned. Quote:
These aren't recolorable unless you make new subsets for it. it's explained here: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=103379 But i still would suggest using one that has textures.

Well, I am glad it's not something I am doing wrong then lol. I have been able to clone and alter another lamp and keep the light, but it isnt as bright now somehow, back to the lighting tut I guess... |

Well, I have made some progress: I was able to clone the light, and keep it lit I was able to replace the mesh, and keep it lit I was able to get the light to show up in the game using the correct textures, oh, and keep it lit Screenshot time Please ignore the texture, I havent replaced it yet Only problem now, is as you can see, when lit, the 'bunnys' are way too bright, and white, as with the overall light it is casting. What I wanted was a soft pink to the 'bunnys' and overall room light, I have tried altering the settings in the TXMT file, for both the unlit and lit version. For the unlit version, this worked, as you can see by the pink 'bunnys', but no matter what I do in the lit version, it seems to ignore it, as well if I change the settings in the LGHT file... ...I cant even get it to change to a full red I did notice it makes reference to an external LGHT file somewhere, and if it means having to create a new one of those and create the settings in there, then I will leave it as it is, as that tut about the LGHT files is a little hard for me to get the hang of... |

This looks pretty neat already, reason why they turn out white is because they are the actual bulbs. You can however alter these in the Diffusionsourcecolor and also the Color setting if i'm correct. But please don't ask me exact settings because it's a bit try and error, but i know it can be changed. However it's better to make a 2nd file, read below! Quote:
Yes it's a 2nd file you will need to create, this external file is actually a maxis global file. All you need to do is use a text file in wordpad and save it as ".nlo" with the same file name as your package has. (for example: if your package is called "bunnylamp.package" then call it bunnylamp.nlo. I do think in numenors tut from what i remember he explains it somewhere how to create a .nlo file. Basically the text from the maxis .nlo file you can place in it and alter it to what you like it to become. But again most will be by try and error to get the right settings. It's been a long time for me so if anyone else can say if i'm explaining it right or wrong i would also be grateful myself. Anyway i wish you good luck with it.

Yeh he does mention about creating the nlo file, but briefly. He did put an example of what to enter into it, problem is I can't distinguish between what actually goes in the text file, and what is just formatting on his post... |

Maybe one of his own uploads can help you out The 2nd file is a .nlo file, open it with wordpad and you find out what it must contain and how you can make one! |
