I'm pretty sure that someone already asked this, but I can't find a thread or info about it, not here or in the wiki.

I've had the sims since 2004, but I've never seen an abduction. Today I created this new family and I forced an abduction with the boolprop cheat. The problem is that after my sim began the "be abducted" action the screen changed to the video format, but the video never played, I could listed to everything that happened, but I couldn't see it, the screen just froze. After that the game showed no other problem, it was just fine. So I thought that maybe the auto videos where disabled, but I cheked and all the boxes in the camera section are enabled.

So, what could be happening?

EDIT: I have all the EPS, and the Stuff Packs except Celebration, H&M fashion and Teen style.

EDIT (again lol): The problem isn't my graphics card, or I hope not, I have a nVidia GeForce 5200

My previous graphics card was the same one you're currently running on, and I will tell you it's the very low-end of what can even run the game, period. Chances are the reason you're not seeing the video is because the card simply cannot handle it; I recall being able to view an ingame video or two with only moderate lag when on a tiny lot with almost nothing on it to task the card, but ended up turning the videos off permanently because with even the most moderate livable lots the lag on the videos was so bad that by the time the card was able to handle the initial frames the video was over.

contrakat is correct - the 5200 is a few steps down from what I used to have (5600 I think), and they can barely support the game, especially with so many EPs and SPs. Videos used to be a thing of foreboding when I had that card, due mostly to the fantastic display of out-of-sync audio and the lag. You should still get abductions without the videos, though.

Thanks for replying!!

I bought the 5200 because it was the cheapest one lol, but since we're in the holidays I can manage to get a new one, but I remeber that I used to be able to see videos, long ago

So, if I should get a new card which should be? I'm not planning to get the best one, just a nice one that can run the game correctly.

Well, your whole system is pretty slow. We recommend at least 512 MB of RAM, preferably 1 GB, you have only 254 MB.
Your CPU is 1.13 GHz, the recommendation is towards 2 GHz to run the game smoothly. Add this to the low end graphics card and you'll end up with a slow and choppy game play where you won't be able to view the special events camera. I think your best option is to turn them off.

EDIT: could you please update your profile, i just noticed you said you have all EP's running. With that your system specs are under the recomandation of EA: http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=340

OMG, I thought I had the system requirements, hmmm no wonder why the videos aren't working.

I guess that the best option is to get a better pc but its funny how I've managed play with all the graphic settings on high without crashing.

Ok, I just updated my profile

Thanks for updating your profile.

And yes, your pc has been underpowered since Pets. Note that this is only the CPU and it should not been a big problem. You would only see a lot of lagging. But ever since BV, your RAM has been too low too, that would give you issues.
