I've downloaded a couple skintones and sims successfully on my mac, but i don't know where to put the file. Does anybody know where to put it and how i will know it worked? I'm fine with furniture, though

Downloaded sims are sims2packs - double-click them to install. Skins go in your Downloads folder. You'll find skins under the custom * next to the regular 4 skintones when making sims, and custom sims show up in about the same place iin Create a Sim - first panel, premade sims bin. Make sure you have the right age/gender showing.
