I have recently uploaded my sims data on a new computor and everything is running fine. All my lots are up, custom content etc. My problem is that even on the smallest of lots, it is slow manuvering around the lot, and it often stutters. Nothing wrong with other gameplay - sims do everything perfectly. Just that one problem.
Loading sims, neighbourhoods and lots are quick - just the actual lot is very ssllooww!! (SLOW)

As i am fairly new to sytem specs - heres all the details i think you need to know :
-SYSTEM-
OPERATING SYSTEM- windows vista home basic (6.0, bulid 6000)
PROCESSOR - intel(R) celeron(R) CPU
MEMORY - 1014MB RAM
PAGE FILE - 1398MB used, 879MB avalible
DIRECTX VERSION - directX 10
-DISPLAY-
NAME - mobile intel(R) 965 express chipset family
MANUFACTURER - intel corporation
CHIP TYPE - mobile intel(R) 965 express chipset family
APROX. TOTAL MEMORY - 251 MB
MAIN DRIVER - igdumd32.dll
VERSION - 7.14.0010.1409 (english)
-SOUND-
NAME - speakers (realtek high definition audio

really hope someone can help as this is rather anoying - also i can post more info

cheers!

Seems like you must have a laptop, as you have a mobile graphics chipset. This is an unsupported chip for the game, and coupled with the fact that you are running Vista on a gig of RAM, this could be why you are experiancing some lag. The best thing to do would be to try turning down some of your graphics settings. The best one to start with is to turn off the transparent UI- that just means that the game controls aren't see through, which has minimal impact on the game but saves a lot of graphics rendering when you pan.

Shortly put.. your computer does not even meet minimum requirements to play the game, so your lagging is expected. I can tell without knowing your exact Celeron processor because Intel simply does not make a processor in that family even remotely up to snuff to balance out your weak integrated video chipset. Also, as simplesample said, although 1gb meets bare minimums, it is really too little to expect the game to run well on that Vista OS, even if other things were stronger. You can try to do what simplesample suggested about turning down settings in the game, but to be honest I would reccomend not playing TS2 on that laptop as it is really not built to handle it and you could end up damaging it. If you feel you have to play ts2 on that laptop, you could also try removing your custom content and only installing the base game (assuming you have other expansions).

In addition to the above, play small lots with only a few sims and not much in the way of furniture.

There are lots of other effects you can try turning down too. Try turning off reflections, antialiasing (edge smoothing), shadows, PIP (picture in picture camera)... also test the game with the texture and lighting details reduced. Some may make more of a difference than others; it's really just something to try to see if it works. Also optimising your PC by shutting off any background tasks (such as Google Desktop, antivirus apps, screensavers etc.,) can help, and setting your graphics options to 'best performance' and Windoze classic theme can sometimes make a difference.

No, that would just mean that you have more space on your hard drive (which is storage space). That wouldn't help performance unless you were so low on space that the hard drive was slow to write or access.

It's not going to make your computer slower when the game isn't running. You simply don't have a wonderful system, so the game isn't going to run incredibly well. That's just the way it is. You've gotten advice to turn down settings, which can help some - but integrated Intel graphics are just not made for gaming, and if you over-strain them on a regular basis, you can burn out the chip. In a laptop, this means you can ruin your laptop by subjecting it to too much strain - like a high-strain graphics game like TS2. Despite it not being the most gorgeous game out there, it uses a lot more resources than you'd expect, graphics-wise.

A registry cleaner wouldn't really help. The things that Callistra, HP and I mentioned may though:
