I thought there would be more on the subject because I'm sure I'm not the first person to have this happen to but I didn't find anything. I downloaded free time and went to play it. When I was playing ALL of my previous downloads were gone! All of them! Not only that but all of my saved games were gone. I thought I backed up the files like they said too. So while cursing hysterically i proceeded to go to my downloads folder to see what might be wrong and its not even there! I'm completely lost! I have no idea how to get them back and I don't even know if theres a way but if there is PLEASE HELP ME! |

When you say you backed them up.. what -exactly- did you do? If you moved them somewhere while you were installing you have to move them back after you're done installing. |

I'm very confused I think I found my downloads file in C:\Program Files\ModTheSims2.com\Q-Xpress Installer I didn't even know I had that and there all in zip form and I still don't know where my saved games are. |

You need to answer "callistra's" question about how you backed up your files!! |

Okay so to back up your files you moved the entire EA Games folder from My Docs to the desktop? So now that you have the game installed you have to move them back. Copy and paste the entire folder back into My Documents. When you installed the game and ran it the first time the game automatically generated fresh files, since your saved files were on the desktop. Just get rid of the fresh generated files in My Docs and put the ones on the desktop back. |

Hmmm .. well it won't just jump off the desktop. You must have moved it somewhere else by mistake somehow. Try searching for 'EA Games'.. see if you can find the folder. If you have Vista do a 'search everywhere' and tell it to 'search file names only' not indexes. If you have XP just have it search the entire hard drive. |

There's no way for us to tell you what you did with the files. If your search doesn't come up with anything then I don't know what to tell you. I don't think there's anything we can do. FYI next time you back up your game you need to copy your ENTIRE EA Games folder under My Docs. Those are your game files. The only folder that should actually be removed, not just backed up is your downloads folder. The entire EA Games folder should be backed up and set aside, but not removed, so that you have a copy in case something goes wrong during install. The downloads folder needs to actually be removed before you install. We have guides on this: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?...fore_Installing http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?...e_Help:Back_Ups |

You said in post #3 that you found some downloads in in C:\Program Files\ModTheSims2.com\Q-Xpress Installer so, make a new "Downloads" folder (don't forget to spell it correctly- "D" and an "s" on the end (without the ") ) and then unzip the files to that folder. |

Indeed - those are the Q-X's temp files, unzipping them back to Downloads will work fine. They are, however, only the files you downloaded from MTS2 using the Q button. You moved your EA Games folder to your desktop, then what? It vanished? |

I'm sorry we can't help you further! It is a mystery as to what happened to your EA games folder though, do you think you may have deleted it from your desktop in a fit of peek? Something like, "oh, what's this doing here, I don't need it as I've got one already?" Any how, when you have all your new downloads, downloaded, put them on a cd/dvd then you won't loose them again! (I have a separate folder called, "sims downloads" and I burn them onto a rewritable dvd at regular intervals) |

Feeling like a bit of a chat about creation or just... whatever (not necessarily sims)?
