Okay, this is a somewhat odd problem, I hope it's not too confusing when I explain it. (I apologize if this is already covered somewhere, I looked but none of the FAQs seemed to cater to this particular issue.) I run the Sims on my desktop, and my laptop. BodyShop fails to work on my desktop (it just won't start), so I had created a family in-game using CAS instead. I decided I wanted to transfer them to my laptop, so I used SimPE to export them to the Saved Sims folder, then I copy-and-pasted the files into the Saved Sims folder on my laptop. Upon opening BodyShop on my laptop, my Sims were there, albeit missing some custom content. I was able to clone them, but when I went to change the hair, no styles showed up, and then BodyShop froze. After restarting, I loaded the game itself, to see if there was a difference if I loaded them using CAS. I found the Sim, clicked on it, then selected the checkmark (yes), and then the game froze. Here are my laptop specs (since this is where I want to be able to use the Sims): System ------- Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T700 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1014MB RAM Page File: 536MB used, 1903MB available DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Display ------- Name: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family Manufacturer: Intel Corporation Chip Type: Intel(R) GMA 950 Approx. Total Memory: 224.0 MB Main Driver: ialmrnt5.dll Version: 6.14.0010.4693 (English) Er, it's a laptop I got through my university, so it's not specifically intended for gaming, but everything's run smoothly on it until now, so I'm hoping there's a fix for this problem. Thank you so much for any help you are able to provide!

I've never tried to extract and move a sim from one computer to the other, but I can tell you that your laptop does not meet minimum requirements to play the game. A 2.4ghz processor is required at minimum to run the game if you have a integrated graphics chipset, which you do. Here's some things you can do to help: - make sure your game and all expansions are patched (There is one available for the base game, one for each expansion, and even one for one of the stuff packs) - Update drivers - Close all unnecessary programs while trying to play (anti virus, messengers, web browsers, etc) and use msconfig to help clean out unnecessary processes: http://modthesims2.com/showpost.php...45&postcount=21 - Turn down in game settings and turn off extras like reflections - Remove any custom content - Uninstall your expansions and just play with the base game - make sure to back up your game files before uninstalling. Hopefully you made a back up before installing the latest expansions because your user files you are using now won't be usable if you uninstall them. Here is our guide on playing with an integrated chipset:http://modthesims2.com/wiki.php?tit...nboard_Graphics Ignore the upgrading part. You can't install a graphics card on that laptop. Also, we do not support third party hacks/custom content/programs for Sims 2 of any kind. If you're having problems getting InSim to work you need to post on their support forums. I do know that if you don't have some custom content showing up that can mean you don't have the necessary meshes for it in your game. |

Hrm, well I've been running the game smoothly on my laptop for about a year now, even if it doesn't meet the minimum processor requirement. *scratches head* And I know about needing meshes to get custom content to show up - everything had been working fine before that. It's just selecting and trying to edit those specific Sims (the ones I transferred from my desktop), that make BodyShop/CAS freeze. I've since reloaded the game and made a different Sim from scratch, everything else works fine. |
