Whenever I add my own AVI videos to a TV channel (for example to the Yummy Channel), they play alright for about two minutes, picture and sound are fine. After the two minutes, the picture freezes on the TV screen, but the sound is still playing in the background. This ALWAYS happens, but only for the custom videos I add (the default Sims 2 TV shows are ok)!

Are they large AVI files? Can you test with a shorter AVI to see if that makes a difference? Also, make sure your AVIs are of the correct size and format- no more than 128x128 pixels and 15 frames per second.

The AVIs are the right size and run at 15 fps, so that's ok. I currently have three AVI files-one which is 2 mins 22 secs (4.41MB), one which is 3 mins 20 secs (6.97MB) and one which is 4 mins 21 secs (6.52MB).

This one is about a minute and a half, and runs fine in game for me. If you could test it, it will tell us whether filesize is an issue or not.

Well, the video plays alright for the majority of the time. However, the picture freezes just before the 'Made with the Sims 2' part plays. Of course, I can still hear the sound at that part. Does this mean that there's a problem with my game?

Hmm, not sure what should cause this! Time for some experiments. Cut and paste your entire Sims 2 folder from Documents/ EA Games/ The Sims2. Run the game so that a new set of files are generated. Exit the game and put my Nina/ Dina movie into one of your Movie folders. Start the game and test... still the same issue, or better? What about your other movies, do they work?

Regrettably, I still have the same problem (with my previous videos and with your one). Should I restore my previous Sims 2 folder now?

Yes, go ahead and put all of your content back in. What my next suggestion would be is to update your graphics drivers:
http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php...#Update_Drivers
Also check what programs you have running as services or background tasks. I have a pretty ancient PC for gaming and it plays movies okay, so it's possible that there is something on your PC which is interfering here.

I don't really have anything running in the background apart from AVG Anti-Virus and Windows Live Messenger (occasionally). Also, I tried loading custom movies onto my older Dell Dimension 8300 (with an ATi Radeon 9800) which also has the Sims 2 loaded. Even that has the same problem as my laptop.

Mind you, both my laptop and my desktop have AVG Anti-Virus loaded and running in the background. Could this be the problem?

Updating drivers did not help?

I don't think AVG is the cause as I have that installed on computers that don't have this problem.. wouldn't hurt to kill it while you're playing TS2 just to test the theory though. Recommend disconnecting from the net first, just to be safe.

Sometimes you have more running processes than you think, even if you can't connect them to programs you can see as open. This post might be helpful: http://modthesims2.com/showpost.php...45&postcount=21
This is a good Vista tweak guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=166532

Unfortunately, this still didn't solve my problem - although I really appreciate the Vista tweak guide: sped up my laptop a lot! Thanks for the link!

I'm starting to get the feeling that this problem is never going to be fixed - seeing as this problem has happened on both my laptop and desktop.
