I have a huge issue with the fact that i must have got a hacked mailbox with some lot. I have no idea where it came from and no idea what the file name is. Everytime i delete it ingame it respawns and i cant play apartments properly. The image is of a normal mailbox with a red mailbox. It has millions of recolours but the description only states 'Mailbox'. Does anyone have any idea how i can get rid of this without it respawning? Thanks in advance |

In order to better solve your problem, please go through the following as listed below:
On occasion you might be asked to do a long FAQ - please make sure you do all the steps and don't just skip over them. You'll often find that these long FAQs have all the details you need. If nothing in the above FAQs fixes your problem you may post again detailing exactly which you have done and which steps failed. |

I had some major issues with that mailbox a few months ago. I did a search for it in CleanInstaller and deleted all 3 "mailboxes" that were in my downloads folder - after that, no more evil red mailbox. |

Omg! I have this problem too. I even deleted the 3 mailbox packages, but i still have it. I even deleted a bunch of recolors that I dont really what it is for, figuring it should be those gazillions of mailbox recolors, but i was wrong :[ |

That's why we recommend following the FAQ linked above. The files can be lurking in a number of places. No more...OMG This is happening to me posts. Do the FAQ. |

I found this particular mailbox in several folders, apparently packaged with a few lots I downloaded. It has a garbage name so it was kind of hard to find. (this is an understatement... I was looking for DAYS) Anyway, hope this saves folks some time in looking for it: 47f6694823b08ee078ac6d52158e192b_0001.package |

That's why our FAQs are so easy. Had you gone through the Game Help FAQ, you'd come to step 4. This would have linked you to the Finding Problem Content FAQ. This includes the 50% method. This would ensure you to find all problem files within a few hours

Probably much, much quicker than a few hours, considering the 50% method is the last resort, and one can use DDO (linked on the page Angel linked) to sort out unlikely files and rule them out. It's also likely that the mailbox hack will -not- have that filename for other people. Those long garbage filenames are generated by Clean Installer when you install from a sims2pack, and thus will vary. |

Make sure you get rid of the game object as well as the recolors. It is sneaky and there are multiple recolors. I am infected as well, Fran! | |

Those long "garbage" filenames --which, incidentally, are hexadecimal numbers-- are also produced by the in-game downloader, probably given to it by the server. HP, are you sure that they are random, and not generated from data within the file? |

Whether random or generated, they are different every time the file is installed - so either way, knowing the filename someone else had won't help a person find the offending item. |

Actually, doing the FAQ is what took me days. Keeping in mind I had to restart the game each time (SLOW computer), and deal with life in between. While it's normally a great method and very thorough, I was pulling my hair out and just found it faster to start up the game and scroll through the list. Not sure about the naming conventions of garbage files... However... I will say that I found multiple mailboxes with the exact *same* garbage name in different folders from multiple installs. Knowing the name actually saved me a lot of time. A quick search and delete and I was back in business. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else out there downloaded the same files. No sense in *everyone* having to go through that tedium if after a 5 second search they can find the problem, right? ::shrug:: Just tried to help. |

Thanks for the information NetKitten, that mailbox is proving problematic to a lot of people at the moment due to the AL mailbox update. However there were several versions of that mailbox released- so the file names are likely to be different- but hopefully your information will help someone. If not then the 50% method will help! |
