My neighborhood is melting.

I've been suffering a jump bug (object error) so immediately set about trying to fix the problem with the usual (well outlined) MTS2 procedures. I was cockily confident, of course. I've fixed this before. Broken objects. No big deal...

But somehow the object in question seems to be the default mailbox.

After some griping about the horror of this, it makes some sense that it happened now. I'd been playing with spawning new townies after being very happy with some default replacements I've had for awhile. For the very first time since installing Pets, Seasons, Freetime, and BV, I decided to go a little further and try out some booprop--->spawn nerf-gun---->spawn townies/downtownies.

Never done that before. Was fun, if confuddling at first.

Since then, and unfortunately concurrently installing a wide swath of CC, I've had the object error bug become severe suddenly. EG:

Anyone else ever had this and have a cure? I can't seem to debug this on my own as while it may be related to some CC, removing the recent CC isn't fixing it. Is the neighborhood toast? It is backed up, but no backups are really appealingly close to the CC binging of last week. Though there are about 80 custom sims and lots of time put in, I'd almost rather start over with a truly clean ( Clean Custom Neighborhood ) than go back just before the recent 100 hours of playtime with the same characters.

It looks like a hack problem. Maybe an outdated hack or conflicting hacks?

Did you remove your entire Downloads folder ?

I'm worried that my latest Salvation Army donation will result in homeless people looking like sluts from the 90s.

I removed the entire downloads folder, and on the second try it worked without errors. So it is a download item of some sort, or a conflict... I'm giving it a runthrough now with all newer items removed (again).

But I have to fess up to something:

I deleted the broken object twice as I was focusing on finishing the error dump so I could read the logs. And in this case the broken object was the mailbox. I'm quietly hoping this wasn't neighbor-fatal

Thank you Callistra. I am doing so as we speak.

In the past I've been able to handle broken objects by just reading the error logs and removing the offending objects, but this time it seems to certainly call for a more methodical approach.

Yup. Also, you might want to try the hack conflict detector at Palladin's place. It's a handy tool. Not always 100% correct. But useful anyway.

So far I've found with the first 50/50 split that neither set works. So I have multiple failing packages... of a group of 1300 or so. It'll take awhile but I'll update when finished!

Getting there...

Since it looked like multiple object conflicts I once again abandoned the 50/50 swap technique and went to use the hack conflict detector at Palladin's place, which pointed to Inteenimator, Monique's hacked computers, and perhaps the remotebusinessfix pescado hack. Oh, and I had a duplicate phonehack as well. The coffeecuphack also was reported as conflicting with Inteen.

So, out with them all and things work pretty well. The remote business check-in still seems to be acting up, and I have some audio conflicts as well

But these have been around since I started checking on other object problems and don't seem to present a serious game-play problem (shrug).

I'm re-adding Inteen after re-downloading it, as well as the hacked computers. I'm not sure how the hacked computers store global tokens, etc.., but I would imagine if they were corrupted then I may have to do without them in this neighborhood unless I can find some way to restore said tokens...

Now I'm wondering if the remotebusinessfix was interrupted, leaving a procedure call with no object... Its a stretch, but I just can't seem to isolate what is conflicting with what... I can fix things by removing content that is pretty vital and was working: Inteen, Monique's computers, but I can't seem to find what new thing is conflicting with them.

Please do not multi post. If you have something to add just edit your original post.

Every game has some random audio errors. Ignore them.

If you need help with individual downloads you need to refer to the creator of the download, whether it's not working properly, conflicting, or you just need an update.

Thanks you callistra. If I can find a culprit conflict I'll try to isolate it and report to the proper parties. I've had a bit more success moving back to the 50/50 method after replacing the leading candidates for conflict and keeping some suspects isolated.

300/1300 packages have been cleared.

1200/1300 cleared.

And I suddenly found: SEDD_ALmailbox.package

AL? OH. From a lot I installed. Didn't happen to notice that in Clean Installer and it wasn't listed in the download webpage. So I'm going to go through the 3 lots I installed and locate the culprit. And report it. It was kind of the mailbox creator to put "AL" in the title, not to mention 'mailbox'! I'd read about AL problems but was too cavalier in installing a few lots it seems.

Interesting to find the most helpful info on this object at gamefaqs

If only one could scour for incompatible items with Clean Installer during the install process.... automatically.

It seems so common sense that it was a mailbox causing the mailbox to break, however due to some concurrent activity I really didn't think I'd find such a simple answer to that part of the problem.

I seem to have fixed the business controller by removing all OFB hacks (pescado), and the Monique computers and then reinstalling both. I love those items and am glad they seem repaired.

I also removed:
wall_5352676b.package.package.package.package

which I've seen happen before. Anyone know what causes this?

Are all your hacks up to date? And yes, that mailbox is well known to us. We recommend it to people who have accidently deleted their mailboxes. But, it is a game hack and should be treated like anyother hack.

BTW..Inteen conflictes with darned near everything.

I brought my hacks up to date when I installed Pets, Seasons, FT, and BV, and only add appropriate hacks one at a time after that. However I don't check for updates continually unless I'm going to be trying something new like a new EP. I just try to only install hacks that are EP compatible and usually have success so long as I don't install too much at once.

I installed too much at once this time and let this mailbox slip through under my radar. Monique's computers were also out of date, as were a couple of Pescado hacks, but they were performing o.k. at least superficially.

And yeah, inTeen seems to be in conflict with a few other things. Mostly (according to Paladin's software) itself! It was helpful though to notice what other objects it reported conflicts with so I had some idea to look at the computers. I wouldn't have thought to update them in response to the business-controller problem, but it seems to have helped.
