<Corsix> Why 'mod the sims 2' when you can mod 'mod the sims 2'?

rhondalette, please do NOT attach or link any files in this thread - you need to follow the instructions given in the first post. We will not be putting those files back unless you do it the correct way.

Had you not already deleted all the work I put into this project, I might have considered it.

Just as an additional note, there's a -reason- we ask for you to do it that way. It's not just because we're picky and particular, but because we have an actual system that allows us to examine the files to verify they are indeed correct, and then attach the files to the first post easily, without having to download and reupload them. Part of the reason we were able to recover so much so quickly is because of that system, so we don't have to download each individual file, open it, examine the contents, and then reupload it.

We do appreciate help with recovering the files and are pretty astounded at the response, but please do try to make it easier on us (since we have to manually fix each thread) and do it by attaching the files and then reporting. Thanks.

You can't download missing files. Missing files are missing.

What if you come across threads that have the missing files message at the top, but there are actually no missing files?

Actually, GeneralOD, you are completely incorrect. It's impossible for the system to have flagged a thread as having missing files unless at least one of the files in the entire thread is missing.

Remember that it's not just the first post that can contain files - other posts can, too, and if these files have gone missing, then the thread as a whole will be flagged.

Also, you are not staff - do not tell people what they can and cannot do on the site regarding reporting etc, especially in cases like this.

BlueSoup, first thing to do is to check to see if the thread contains other files in any of the other posts. If it doesn't, then obviously the uploader forgot to untick the box, so a polite note in the thread would be the way to go. It's up to the uploaders to remove the tickboxes on thier own threads.

If another post in the thread has an attachment, then check to see if that attachment can be downloaded. If not, then it's missing, and would be the cause of this error. If all of the original creators files exist, then again, put a note in the thread.

It's totally up to the creators to untick the box - not the staff. We don't know when things are updated to the satisfaction of the creator, so please do not report these.

Thank you.

Okay, thanks Delphy. I suspect the uploader has forgotten to untick that missing file box when he reuploaded the file, so I'll leave a post in the thread.

Delphy? This thread has no other downloads to be missing, the main file is present and downloadable, and the original poster hasn`t updated the original post since before the crash, yet it still has the Missing Files banner. Unless I misunderstood you, this cannot happen. I`m confused.

Edit: Nevermind. I mis-read my download status. I thought it had finished when it had really aborted. I discovered this when I opened my Download Management window.

GeneralOD, the file (http://chii.modthesims2.com/getfile.php?file=866506) is a definate 404. Links to http://skuld.modthesims2.com/files/...6506_leaves.rar

Checking if folder /home/filestore/chii/attachments/1/5/2/2/9/3/6 exists...true
Checking if symlink /home/filestore/chii/attachments/1/5/2/2/9/3/6/MTS2_thePrincess_866506_leaves.rar exists...false
Check if file /home/filestore/chii/attachments/1/5/2/2/9/3/6/866506.attach exists...false

It's a definate goner, so I have absolutely no clue what you are smoking to claim that is downloadable.

Out of curiosity, is it natural that it takes several minutes for the website to register the changes I've made? I went in and followed all the instructions as a creator for three of my files that got lost, and I made the appropriate changes and saved the thread. Then, to double check, I tried downloading the file and still got the 404 error. So I came in here for some help (cause I knew I had followed the instructions to a T) and just before posting I triple checked my file and it worked. So, just to verify and put my mind at ease, if it doesn't work right after I update it, no need to panic? It will just take a few minutes to verify the changes I made, right?

Yup. We know. That's why we put that stonkin' great banner at the top informing people as such. And why we put it on the list of missing files in the first post of this thread. Ya got the file?

Actually it doesn't say to report missing files - it says to report if you have the files and have uploaded them.

If a thread has the giant big banner at the top that says files are missing then YOU dont need to report anything becuase the banner is already there - thus, everybody KNOWS the stuff is missing.

Also, btw, most of the files on that list are not missing at ALL so I have no idea why you think they are.

If a download doesn't have the huge banner then it's not missing anything.

I suggest you read through this thread again.

There was an error on each one of them that said the files were missing.

That is the only reason I would report anything.

So yeah, sure, call me a noob when I'm not one- I'm used to it. I was just trying to help out because I couldn't find the files.

I was reporting the threads BECAUSE there was no banner.

*sigh* You know what? Never mind.

I'm just not going to come anymore, no big deal if arrogant ppl want to say they want to say, fine.

You dont need to report the threads - they have no banner, thus no files are missing. It says quite clearly in the first post that ONLY threads with missing files have the banner. So if a thread does not have the banner then nothing is missing.

In fact, I just went through all of those threads you linked and checked each and every single download, and you know what? They all worked perfectly.

So, you know, if you are going to waste peoples time becuase you think that the files are missing when they are not... then you are going to get warned for it. But I guess it doesn't matter since you are "leaving".

Have a nice day.

Nobody called you a noob, Eunis.

You don't need to report anything that just has the missing files banner unless you actually upload the files yourself. We can find threads that have missing files easily enough - they don't need to be reported as we know they're missing. It's the actual -files- we need to recover, and if you attach them to a thread with the missing files banner, then you can report the original post to bring it to our attention so we can fix it.

Maybe you were getting some -other- error that isn't due to missing files when trying to download them? Hitting that many threads with missing files in such a short time would be pretty surprising - you sure you weren't getting a 503 error, not a 404?

I actually did get a 404 error.. I've gotten a few 503's in the past with my other account. I think at least 3 of those I linked to were from my old account (the links in my bookmarks). I dunno what else it could have been.

I had simply thought that if it didn't have a banner and I got a 404 error, that no one knew about it. I deleted the post with the links b/c a few of them did eventually download for me. Some still get the error.

Thanks for not being rude about it- I really thought I was helping. Because it is common knowledge that no matter who runs this place, they may have missed something. Nobody's perfect.

I almost want to apologize for presuming someone was not infallible.
