I hate dorms, only for one reason: I can't control the random students/NPCs who join the dorm. My sims have a routine: bathroom, breakfast, training/doing homework, going to class, bath, free time (fulfilling wants), dinner, sleep.
When an uncontrollable sim joins the dorm - I have to use all the times hacks, in order to control them. It drives me nuts, because I care even for them to have the same routine.

Usually, I choose a residential house, and if I want to add friends - they become controllable, so I can rest, lol.

I don't like the Greek houses too, because of the continuous rolling of the want to go downtown/community. When I am not looking, they sneak out, and bring nonstop pizzas - another headache.... Besides, they have to study cooking, no need of a chef.

I actually agree on the fact of incontrolable sims. That's why I make dorms with the exact amount of rooms( like if i have 8 Sims on the lot 8 rooms it is) much easier, plus food is served. Although lately the cooks have been giving my Sims food poisonings >_>

Actually if you use cheats in dorms, then get yourself a pet in a form of a cow plant, Oh boy! don't loose count of how many NPC dorm mates go to take a treat from you pet. Last time I did that I had a who le grave yard of about 10(!) unlucky souls :D

Am I the only one who likes watching how uncontrollable students behave and interact? And it's the same for all NPCs, like on community lots and such, I often sit back and watch it like a movie, so much unpredictable fun happens if you let Sims go on their own. I love playing the dorms, my Sims make a lot of friends this way and even find a future spouse. I mostly play the Sims university and I like the fraternity lot, its first floor is like a big disco club in my game and most of whohooing happens in the back yard. No one wants to study in that Greek house :D

I loove dorms because there are so many uncontrollables! Heck, when I have more than 4 controllables, I sometimes just let a couple do their own thing, checking in on them just a few times during the semester to make sure their grades are decent. I also like just watching them sometimes - it gives me ideas about how their story will go.

I tend to pick the dorms with a lot of rooms, so there will be a nice selection of potential friends, enemies, and lovers. There's this villiage-type dorm @ MTS that I absolutely LOVE because it kind of feels like what I believe TS3 could be like. It's so open with different places to go, and seperate buildings so you can go visit a neighbor, and then go back home when you feel like it.

Heh, I just like the idea that the world around them is still going on. That sims are doing whatever, but I can go look for them if I need them. And looking for them reveals little secret nooks that I wouldn't think a sim could go off to watch the clouds or chill with a friend. Here's a shot of a not so secret place, but in the dorm-village at 2 am. My sim and another just decided to hang out in between the cafeteria and the computer lab.

I'm quite mixed about dorms. I like the aspect of so many sims on the lot that your controllables can interact with, which is what I love about apartments and community lots. But, I don't like how so many of the uncontrollables either get stuck somewhere (probably my fault!), leave their homework all over the place, and cause my game to lag so much.

I spent some time creating a cool 4 room dorm with amenities and such for one controllable sim to join, and there were always SO MANY PEOPLE on the lot at one time that my game lagged so bad. My sim stayed there just one semester of freshman year, then moved into a little house.

But I will say that I love reading other people's stories involving dorms!

Probably one of the few things that I do like about dorms is all the uncontrollable sims. Even when I have a family back in the NH that has more than one sim in it, I tend to pay less attention to the others. I guess that makes me a pretty neglectful simgod compared to these people who have to have control over every minute of every sim on the lot!

I don't play uni very often, but when I do my sim usually lives in a medium-sized dorm and gets rushed through college pretty mercilessly.

waiter, there's a conundrum in my soup

You can get the cow plant from the Secret Society, or have an alumnus get the cow plant from the Naturalist (?) career track, then Give Gift to a University Student. You can then get the Paranormal Resurrect-o-Tron the same way, and resurrect the dormies as playable Sims -- and if you only give Death $1000, they come back as Zombies!

Dorm graveyards work great with Knowledge Sims. I let the Zombies roam uncontrolled. They drop out of school, then I shove them into a custom haunted house lot and place a caretaker Sim there, then play it as an Asylum Challenge!

I just leave grave yards there. They terorrise my dormies. It is fun.

[Try Dolphin's Control-This-Sim Hack

The site wont allow me to post the url, but you can find the Mod/Hack under Mod the 2 sims, downloads, gamd mods, global mods. It is probably my favorite game mod.

Greek Houses are Sims version of college fraternities and sororities. If you google "Sims2 greek house", you will get tons of links leading to information about them. MTS2 has a little help article as well - http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php...lp:Greek_Houses

And I love playing Greek Houses, lots of Sims are stopping by so it's easy to make friends/find a GF or BF, and I find their ability to bring pizzas for free very usefull, there's always food in the house. Constant fights between the evil mascot and cheerleader are amusing, plus I like it when Sims bring goodies, I put them to their inventories to sell later when they graduate and start living on thieir own, to help them with funds

yeah, i agree. although having all controlable sims is easy, it gets boring after a while. i like having people walk in and out, and uncontrolable people to befriend. i find it useful to have an easily persuaded or controlable friend around, though.

Yes, you control all the sims in the greek house. If you invite a dormie to join and move them in, you will control them as well. (But it still doesn't stop that cheerleader from suddenly running off to cheer, even in the middle of a date!)

I am Ghost. My husband (who made the account because I was too shy) is sidneydoj. I post, he downloads, and I wanted to keep my post count.

lg135, you would hate dorms, if you make some uncontrollable sims selectable.

They are near their aspiration limits. When your sims go to sleep, observe some of the townies: they are about to collapse, but don't go to sleep; they are hungry but don't eat, they are filthy but don't use the bathrooms.

I love the sims, even if they are townies, and I suffer only to see them in this poor condition. That's why I insist to control the townies too.

The hack Control-This-Sim seems to be good, especially for the players who hate to torture their sims....

if you don't like cheerleader or mascot...Simple. Lock the front door. Switch it to allow household only, which make it that only sims you control can go through. I do that all the time. So what if incontrollable dormies fail, because they don't go to classes. thye are stuck on 1st semester anyways through out the game...

Nope. I don't mind the Dormies at all. Though it does agitate me when they leave their assignments all over the place.

Oh yes, sometimes my dorms are basically littered with unfinished assignments left on every possible surface except for counters :/

"tutor for simoleons"

Great way for a knowledge sim to earn some money while tidying up the assignment litter

Yeah, it's one of the options, very handy The Patels kid from Belladonna Cove, once he went to college, he saved a neat amount of simoleons there by being a trainer in the gym. He even was able to purchase a bigger house in the end and started a Greek House.
